Posting "correct" information doesn't make it any less of a ripoff.

Do you believe everything you read, or did the recruiter bash this into your head?

That was the recruiter! What was not mentioned is that marten charges you at least two cents a mile for the perdiem.

I love your analogy. Brilliant!! I might add a bit of wisdom passed on to me by an old hand in the biz, not long before he passed due to a heart attack. He said to the effect of, "People like to be hustled. For example, you can have 2 trucking companies just down the street from each other, one carrier gives much better pay and treatment, but they both have just as long a line of applicants." He summed it up that a carrier doesn't have to pay you as well or treat you as well if they can provide a good hustle up front. I have chewed on his theory and digested it and the more I reflect on it the more I believe it is true, and not just in trucking. People like to be hustled.

Some other things not mentioned are the time you sit at terminals waiting over the weekend for service, and the hours you sit waiting to get loaded and unloaded. Or how about being told that your load will be ready on one day and waiting a day for that to actually happen. Even telling you that the load is ready only to find out that when you get there that it is now a live load which takes forever. All of which eat up your clock which they have scheduled so tight that it is a near imposibility to get the loads there on time. And a note on the load that says the company is not happy with martins service. Let's keep it accurate! This is what we just went through!

It doesn't mean diddley doo to a paycheck if you are sitting at a terminal on Friday afternoon to get service done on Friday evening, and still sitting there on Monday night still waiting for that service work to get done! Getting dispatched Moday night to pick up Tuesday and deliver on Wednesday night. Sitting 4 days does not earn any per diem and very little in the way of lay over pay. Not even $60. a day. Then tax that! How much did he make for all his time sitting? Per diem is suposed to be an allowance for drivers living on the road not an addition to or a replacement for an honest paycheck for an honest days work. I believe rachi has it right. That was someone from Marten. Just not sure who.

I agree with that. It just seems that it is getting worse all the time. How is an honest driver suposed to make an honest wage? Not even our local companies are hiring right now. We do have a couple of leads but even they are shakey.

Layover Pay is $100.00 per day you sit waiting for a preplan. Ihave also gotton it, when i have tried to del early or drop in a drop lot and can't, So, i end ups sitting on a load an extra day or two.
Shop pay is $25.00 the first 24 hrs, then $50.00 for every day after

Ya, that is about what he got. But how do they expect anyone to live on that kind of paycheck. Even hamburger flippers make more than that if they put in an 8 hour day. When you are sittting on that load do you get any kind of compensation?
