I talked to a larger carrier yesterday. They had an ad for a local driver for second shift.
I know that their OTR drivers make 36cpm and have all new Freightliners.

Guess what local paid?.....13 an hour...
How can you feed a family on that?

I'm getting 16 per hour now hauling groceries dock to dock and thought that was low pay..:biggrin_25511:

    Hell,back in 1985 to 1987 i was bringing home 4k a month hauling furniture.
A bad week was still 700....That was after fuel, truck lease and all expenses.
I even stayed in hotels about every night...

That seriously pisses me off reading that. I don't know what 13/hour is like down in NC but I know up here in CT it's a joke. I made 13.50/hr delivering medical equipment in a cargo van throughout New England with a regular driver's license. It was the biggest cake job.

It seriously makes me so upset that these companies pay such little rate to drive a tractor trailer. They are making so much money off of people that take that rate. When I see a craigslist ad that is paying low I go the immature route and apply and act all serious...beef up my experience so they will potentially call. Then I'm like 13/hr LOL you have to be kidding me and I get on them about it! Makes me feel good although I know it's immature LOL.

The problem is (and please don't take me as a racist) a lot of minorities and foreigners come to this country. Can't even speak English and just get their CDL and they go to work and are willing to work for such low rates. It's very sad.

EZ Money and BNR32 Thank this.

Just from reading this thread it's obvious this line:

""""thank you for your interest in WS Trucking but I currently feel as if we have better qualified candidates at this time""""

is from a "form" email, it probably has no bearing on your personally...

It can be turn over is so low they don't have the trucks, the area you live in has enough people at that terminal, freight is down this time of year(from what I hear, that's the norm) among other reasons...I wouldn't take it personally...

I still like that fact people working there have few if any complaints, they pay as agreed and ontime, they fix issues ASAP and you can run all the miles you want!...I'm still averaging over 3000/wk...

I agree with everything you just said!!! I didn't take it personal at all!! I know the freight is very slow industry wide this time of the year. If i'm not with a good company in a few months i'll probably apply again when freight picks up. I'm glad you still getting the miles and i know W&S would be a good company to work for, just because of drivers like you. Thanks!

W/S sounds like a great company. I've read several threads, and all of you are supportive and polite to each other (a quality that I respond to very well.)
I've checked their website and it is not very informative. I gather from your postings that the starting pay is .25cpm?
What is the hometime policy? It says hiring now a reasonable distance from a list of terminals (120 mi.), but they have a terminal in Indianapolis, my hometown, and are not hiring here?
At what rate do they repay you for your CDL training?
    Are flats only O/O?
Thank you and stay warm and safe.
