HOS is just fine and "resonable" for me and I'm sure other's. What works for some will not work for others. Oh well
"safty groups" this is still America right? They (and you) have the right to lobby for what ever they want, or should we change that comrade?

Mandatory dock pay, hmmn more fed rules-n-regs, yup that should work! It's not a bad idea but if it's a real problem why do you still work for that Co.?
Stopping the clock, yeah I could go for that. -
OK, I'm not even going to bother with this cept I do agree with the last sentence -
so do I
-
The simple fact that the 'Safety Groups' involved in lawsuits against the government are the ones that have nothing to do with trucking and everything to do with pushing their will on one industry makes them unacceptable. Take a look at the ones behind the lawsuits against the government over the HOS and then tell me what you think. Comrade.

You missed the point,
You , just like me and ANY and EVERY American can address or lobby for whatever you want. Just cause you don't want it dosn't mean it shouldn't happen.
I haven't bothered to look at any law suits or complaints over HOS, It dosn't matter at all! If you want them to change or stay the same SPEAK UP the same as any one else. BTW HOS is a poor example, why? Because HOS does effect every body with costs of goods and safty on the road -
The last time I emailed my Congressman. He emailed me back and said he agreed, blah, blah, blah, I feel the same way, blah, blah, blah.
Then vote day he voted the other way. At least he emailed me back.

1. End company driver mills, you have to go to a community college to get a license.
2. Overtime pay for local drivers and hourly wages for detained highway drivers.
NO WORK WILL BE PERFORMED WITHOUT COMPENSATION.
A Strike needs to be about public relations as much as it is about our bottom lines and lifestyles. If you get the medias sympathies and the publics, the politicians will follow........public opinion is everything to an elected official.
The time has never been better for packaging and selling a strike to the general public. If the strike is presented in the form of public safety and interests it will garner more support which would have a lasting impression once the strike would end.
Instead of being the meathead at the dock, scale or shopping mall that wanted to hold America hostage for selfish reasons you are now the champion of public interest and saftey. The idea is to come out of a strike looking like the victim not the villain.
With the conomy as it is we are seeing more companies outside of driving scale back on wages and using how truckers are paid as an example of where America is headed in general on everyones wages,we will have the public sympathy rather than their ire.
Ending driver mills cuts the supply of drivers coming into the industry which should see demand increase and the cost of employing a driver increase. The public needs to be protected from US and that is how you package the strike.
Anything else and you are just another whiney prick trying to squeeze more money out of a flatlining economy.
I like using safety groups to carry on our fight once we have gone back to work, ever wonder why companies fight these guys tooth and nail? Because if the ideas that the groups have were implemented it would mean higher wages for drivers and fewer driving hours while doing so.zentrucking, SmoothShifter and Woody13 Thank this. -
So far we have some basic guidelines.
This last post was well written and by myself, well recieved.
Lets face it. This forum is just a small little corner where truckers come to gather information, let off some steam, share their expeiences.ect...
The question is, how do we take such a small step and turn it into a leap where it really benefits all of us?
Is there reason for a strike? IMO it's long overdue.
There are many safety reasons that need to be addressed.
There is government abuse's that cost us daily with all the taxes and permits, misguided regulations that serve them and not us. Larger companies in this industry as well as insurance companies go to our state reps and washington and lobby in their behalf and leave us sitting on the side of the road banging our heads agains't the wall wondering why we even continue to bother fighting this crap everyday. We have families to feed and bills to pay is most likely the reason why but not a lot of truckers are finding much pleasure out of the work enviroment these days.
I don't have the imagination or the skills to put something on the table that will take and gather momentum with all of you in trying to invoke your will to survive and make you want to do something that will make you a happier and more satisfied individual by doing what you do every day. We need ideas and a commitment.
You don't even have to test thise therory. Just think about the last 50 times you have turned on your CB. What did you hear? People that are happy? Someone in the truck stop on a saturday afternoon broadcasting that they are having folks come over by the grill for a burger to celebrate their prosperity and happiness or just to sit and BS with other drivers who are stuck for the weekend?
Trucking takes over a persons life. It IS a lifestyle. If you are not making money and you are depressed with how you are treated, then you are one of most likely the majority of drivers that are out there angry and unhappy with your life. There is no way you are going to go home on the weekend and leave all this out there on the road. It goes home with you. It is your life.
