Same thing for us driving transfer dumps...we have locations up & down California. In Nor Cal, we call the rear trailer box a can. Down in So Cal, I could not find one driver that called it that!

I'm about 2500 miles away from you and I'm sure we call the same thing 2 different things..haha.. But I'm gonna talk some trash anyway..haha..

Since I'm a Brooklyn, NY native with a bad case of East Coast bias, I always feel my terminology is the only way to go right..lol..

We always call our back boxes kites which makes perfect sense to me - the #### thing likes to fly away from you on snow and ice.. Oh S..., there goes my kite.. I've run them before but we call triples a very simple name - one trailer too many.. Con gear? Was the thing arrestees at one point? It's a converter dolly and we took the sensible approach by just calling it a dolly out here on the East Coast..

I am in a bit of a bind though - been a life-long Steelers fan but love the Jets NY swagger in a way.. You're in Cali though so you wouldn't get that - you have the Chargers and Al davis..hehehehehehehehehehehe...

    Can't wait!!!!

    Funny thing about "con gear".....

I have never heard the term until I joined this forum. Always called it a dolly myself lol.

Oh boy.. I thought a "jiff" was adding an axle to a single axle tractor.. Now we're really gonna be confused..

Yeah, a "jiff" is adding an axle to a single screw. I say "con gear" on this forum, because I like to be "official", but if I'm joshin' around with other drivers, I say "dolly". You gotta remember, a lot of newbies browse this forum and don't understand the terminoligy. Besides, at the DMV, they use "con gear" when taking the triples test. (or is it "converter gear"). Kinda like "Bottom dumps" (official) and "belly dumps" (slang).

You are wrong that every axle must have brakes. I piggy back and if you've seen the trucks turned around backwards they aren't required to have brakes on those axles. When we pull just one truck behind the drive one the axle also doesn't have to have brakes. There are only a couple provinces in Canada that require us to have brakes on the truck turned around backwards.
