3 days of orientation and then roughly 3 weeks of training with a trainer. 150 hours. After that's done you go back to Springfield, OH to test out and get your own truck? Then after that do they route you home? How does that work? Out of curiosity.

I'm just new to OTR and I'm not sure how the routing goes. I'm not concerned just anxiously curious. From CT would they send me all the way to Texas or would it be something more like Maine, then Maryland, then Ohio, etc etc etc. What's your average length of haul?

There is absolutely no way of knowing where the hell you will go! Hell, sometimes the plan changes while you are in route! You might go from CT to FL back to MA out to ID to IN to TX and then to Ohio! You are going to go where ever the freight is. In trucking, the only thing you can plan on is the plan changing. I know this isn't going to help you being anxious but its the cold hard truth. Just prepare yourself to go with the wind.

Well they called me up and gave me a pre-hire. Roehl did the same thing though. I didn't know about a following too close ticket that's 4 years old on my MVR. I am not going to be able to go on with Roehl because of that. I'm praying that it won't matter and U.S. Xpress only looks at 3 years. I'm almost positive they do 3 years and not 5 years but I don't want to get my hopes up.

Even though they only ask for 3 years, make sure you talk to your recruiter before you head out and tell to him about the ticket. What is important is that it does not look like you are trying to hide it. After you upgrade, once you get your truck, put in a time off request and tell your Fleet Manager you want to spend a couple of days at home. It will usually take you about 2 weeks to get routed home but no promises.

Yes I will be calling Tonya on Monday. I called late Friday afternoon and couldn't get her but I got somebody else. I told her everything. The last thing I want is to get on a bus to Springfield, OH and then get sent home.

I'm really hoping it's only 3 years they look back. I have a good feeling it is though.

So I will have to wait 2 weeks until I get home after being out for 3? So a total of 5 weeks? They told me that I would normally be out 12-14 days and home for 2. So if it takes 2 weeks for them to route me home I have to request home time as soon as I leave my house? LOL I'm confused.

Dave, do you NEED to get home every two weeks? The real would does not usually work out that way and we have enough angry truckers in the world. :biggrin_25523:
You do not want every conversation you have with your Fleet Manager to be about home time. Remember they are human, build a relationship and run hard and life will improve over time.

No but I rather not be out 5 weeks if I don't have to be. If they tell me 12-14 days I can deal with a couple days here or there but I am getting ready to be out for about 2 weeks. 5 weeks is a lot longer then 2 weeks. It would just be nice to get some home time to refresh after going out for 3 weeks.
