I agree. Again not being ####y but I was ready to test in 20 hours. It's one on one training. I plateaued at the school. I was only going to get so good doing the same old parallel followed by straight back followed by alley dock. I struggled a bit at alley dock in the beginning but then learned on my own what to do to fix it. I got the alley dock down. All this was one on one time. Shifting....when I got in the truck the first time instructor drove. Then he pulled over and had me drive. I was more nervous than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I made it though. Then went out again...got a little better. Then again and again and again and by the end I wasn't even thinking about shifting. It was a piece of cake. Do I still have a lot to learn? Yes! But would I learn anymore driving around the same route over and over again just to pass the test? NO!

My point is 40 hours for a lot of people MAY not be enough but this school has been doing this 40 hours since 1975. They have been in business and they were a great school. The bottom line here is I could of kept in school for 4 times longer at 160 hours or even longer and gotten 200 hours and I wouldn't be a lick better than I am now. I need real world experience to get better now. So the 160 hours and 200 hours is a bunch of crap.

Like I said before....the school I went to for my B....I watched those A guys. I knew what the program was. They shifted a 6 speed synchronized Class B truck with a tag-a-long that was grossed over 10K. The guy running the school is a retired state trooper. He knows all the loopholes. He made it as easy as possible to get you your license. You then went and learned how to drive a split shift AFTER you got your license. I was practicing driving the tractor in the yard because the owner let me for any possible tri-axle jobs that I would possibly get. I was doing good then a guy that got his A license the day before jumped in and was practicing with me and he couldn't drive it! This was AFTER he got his license. These hours were undocumented. He could of left right there if he wanted to and still got the certificate. I am not knocking the school. They were a great school and I am glad I went there but I can tell you first hand from going to 2 schools in as many years that this 160 hours vs 40 hours is a bunch of insurance crap.

They sent me home in Feb of 2010 after orientation. I was told I had exactly 5min to clear the property on the 4th day. I told David T, one of the big wigs at Tunnel Hill and he said hold tight; USX will pay your way home. I have five drivers tell me this. I called the travel department and got my confirmation number and got a bus ride home. I left at 4PM and was home by 530AM the next day. My biggest fear was not finding a way home but what are they gonna put on my DAC.

Did they send you home for something like MVR or something with your driving school you went to?

Honestly, I have no clue but have an idea. You can fill out a piece of paper and mail it in to Chattanooga. They will mail it back to you with the reason.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

I wish you much success, I'm sure with your ability to pick this all up so quickly you will do very well.

Also, if you are taking any kind of medication be sure to bring a note from the prescribing doctor stating that it will "not impair your ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle". Some doctors may balk at writing the note, but USX will insist on having it in their files. Every one trying to protect their own respective 'backsides' from liability.

If your a coffee drinker, it might be a good idea to not drink any the day of your physical. My last time through orientation we had two drivers sent home for excessive heart rates during the stress test ( the weights in a milk crate thing ) because they couldn't get their pulse rates back down to acceptable levels afterwards. Both had 3 or 4 cups of the motel coffee earlier. The nurse administering the tests said that she had seen the same thing happen in previous weeks.

Best of luck to you in your venture.

USX updated their website. They now make the student pay all expenses (bus ticket, meals, etc.) out of pocket and reimburse you if you make the cut (about 3 weeks later) They also removed that big list of qualifiers for student driver employment, I assume they are short on drivers.

Where did you see that? Here is their website.
    http://www.usxjobs.com/Orientation.aspx

And I will cut and paste from the site. It says one meal but you get a free breakfast at the Ramada also.

"Orientation lasts three full days, and you'll be paid $58 a day for those days if you're hired, with $50 automatically advanced on your fuel card. We'll provide lodging and one meal each day and may also provide transportation if you're traveling more than 100 miles to meet us. Please let us know if you need help getting to class. We'll see you soon!"

edit: Did not mean to sound rude, please do not take it that way
