Let's say I drove for a year and then take a break for a year with my savings. Could I still have my 1 year experience work toward a 50k trucking job or would the 1 year experience be cancelled? In other words when they look at experience do they look at whether you had it recently?
Can you re-enter the industry easily?

From what I've read on here, I'd say you will be looking at a refresher course. I'm in Canada so I'm offering this only until someone south of the line jumps in with a more definite answer.

A year within the last two years? You might be OK, but don't count on it. You might have to start with a small local company to get more recent verifiable experience.
Ranger_309 Thanks this. -
It depends, but, one thing for sure, if you get into this industry and get out one year later, then try to come back a year later, you will have problems trying to explain.
Wargames and rocknroll nik Thank this. -
Savings after the FIRST year....are you serious?
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
My prediction: This is going to turn into a great thread.

Dang you people, every time I get my hopes up, you shatter them with reality. At least I know one thing, I loved this job. It's not all that counts, but it's what matters subjectively. Outcomes vary...results may vary...

lupe, there's only one way to know if your situations will work or not, you've got to call the companies directly. Don't just rely on what you hear here.
Start here:
Con-Way Truck Load
May Trucking
Marten Transport
Schneider
Swift
Celedon
US Express
There's others but I'd start with those, from the top down. This list is offered to get you back on the road, not to give you the best employee experience ever, if you know what I mean.
For me, if it boiled down to only CR England or Werner being willing to let me drive, I'd be up against a very difficult decision. I'd probalby choose to go become the junior assistant whopper flopper at Burger King before CRE or the big W.lupe Thanks this. -
Probably it is what it is.....IT'S RARELY WHAT YOU MAKE IT. But, it can be how you perceive it, sometimes.
