Marten Transportation company's lies start in orientation. They don't tell you until you're there that the pay is on a sliding scale, you get paid less for driving longer miles. They advertise weekends off for Regional Drivers which was my position. Another lie. In the five months of working for them I only got home twice as requested but even then I had to deliver loads during the weekend I was scheduled home and still expected to be back in the truck on Monday. I was always telephoned at home on my last day of "so called" home time trying to get me back in the truck sooner than I had scheduled. They said they guaranteed my home time requested date not hours to arrive home on that specific date but in actuality they didn't get me home at the date requested it was always the following day. They made it virtually impossible for me to get my children for visitation. When I complained to my dispatcher he told me I had time to seem them Saturday afternoon. My children live 3 hours from my residence one way. Next issue I had with them is that during orientation I informed them I had changed my mind about the health insurance which is extremely expensive and that I wanted to cancel out. I was told I had to call the company and informed them even though the agent for the insurance company who had signed me up was still on the premises. I left continuous messages at the home office in between orientation breaks. I finally received a voice mail message on my phone telling me they had received my request and would cancel. About the time the premiums were to be taken out of my check I noticed the deductions and called corporate to ask why. I was told they never received any notification from me and that I had to wait until open enrollment which was November 2010 to cancel. When that time arrived I was told I had to wait until the first of the year. This is when my wife hit the ceiling and she called them. Finally they agreed to cancel the premiums. After orientation was over TEN DAYS because there were no trucks available and I was told mine was in Tennessee. I could take a bus there or take the first available truck that arrived. The truck that arrived was a smokers paradise laden with ashes and stained yellow. At first I rejected it. They cleaned it somewhat and told me it was that one or the one in Tennessee. I personally cleaned the truck to my comfort level and hit the road. The final straw was again I was headed home after being out for ten days and they wanted to put another load on me which would get me home the day following my requested day off. I rejected the load and told them why. Thy wanted to force dispatch me irregardless. I denied the load and went home. To make this short they charged me for dead heading home under 300 miles $680.00. MARTEN TRANSPORTATION IS TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND I WOULD NEVER REFER ANYONE TO WORK FOR THEM. LIARS AND THIEVES. They never honored my home time request, arriving home on saturday and back in the truck Monday morning 5:00am after being out on the road for ten days and sometimes more.

    1. Arrived home day after day requested.
    2. Had to clean own truck
    3. Slow cancelling health insurance
    4. Fined for taking truck home without permission.

That's it right? I didn't miss anything? Are you serious?
I'd call the governer and get the National Guard out, #### I'd take them to court for the horrible way you have been treated.:biggrin_25517:

I understand needing to be home by a specific date. I'm a divorced father of three and grandfather of one and one on the way, all of whom live 140 miles from me.

But freight doesn't always go where you need it to go when you want it to go there...that's the nature of the beast. I myself always schedule appointments for Monday. That way, I've got all weekend to get home on those weekends I'm not going to see my kids.

Sorry it didn't work out for you, but you need to look in the mirror for at least part of the problem.

Poor people don't hire drivers. What's wrong with profit?
Know any L/Os or O/Os that don't want to make a profit?

Think a tad bit of that profit came from that RICO ACT violation of CHARGING FOR ADMINISTRATION FEES for figuring out that per diem pay? It's a total ripoff!
Even a penny a mile to figure out how many miles, times a penny or two to go in a column/cell then subtract that from the actual amount made per mile?
That secretary must be making a TON of money as it takes about 30 seconds to do an excel sheet using easy calc to take that money from you!
    OR for whoever they bought their accounting program from to write almost 3 lines of 30 symbols at most to do the figure so that a secretary or accountant can;

    put in your miles driven
and the program or excell sheet will by itsself
multiply that number times whatever they are charging you for these oh so hard admin fees
then put it in a column/cell
then print it to your pay stub while they laugh at you for being so stupid to drive for an out right thief!
Heck how long does it take you while sitting at the receiver while you're figuring out the final amount you should see on your paycheck? Do any of you think this is a fair deal?
If you or I were to do something like this we'd go to jail! Heck the Mafia is thinking of this deal now!
Not to mention these BFI lowlifes are screwing the gooberment also!

    How you ask?

You get less pay "on the books" so they pay less in income taxes on you!
Here is where you get bent and I actually have and know a few people who think per diem is a good thing but read on!

You have less taxes paid out correct because these bottom feeders pull these "Per diem" monies out before taxes correct? YEP!

First; Here comes workers comp: You get hurt on the job so you apply and get a paltry amount of money and you look at your pay stub and see some good money but you don't look at that income tax paid in.
Workers comp looks at that as how much you made NOT your pay stub! so you do NOT get a fair amount of money to pay your bills at home.

Second: OK we now know that your taxes are pain in less that what they should be, and say you get fired and file for unemployment. OK Martin will contest the UE and you go to arburation and win and get that UE check but wow, thats not much is it? Of course! You paid a thief to charge you to figure out that piddling amount of Per Diem and short you on those taxes to save his company some money and you get squat from UE! Ain't that non opty out per Diem the cats arse?

Third: You stick it out with this BFI for a few years: Then a few more years down the road say you either retire at that ripe old age of whatever they finally decide on is a retirement age and you start to collect that social security OR you become disabled and apply for SSI and when those checks come in you go WTF!!?? Wheres my money? Well because BFI could care less about you but their own salary they screwed you! Remember those taxes they got out of paying by doing this "for the driver per diem?" Well Social Security is figured on your taxes paid and your W-2 or filings and well you didn't actually pay in the full amount when you finally need this money it's in some CEO's back pocket while he's on that sail boat watching that coin operated baby doll in the bikini on the chair next to him!

OH I FORGOT!!! You'll have to pay your accountant for another page so they can figure the per diem for your tax returns as that per diem that Uncle Sam gives you way out pays that paltry bit BFI gave you!

My accountant charges me by each gooberment/IRS form she has to fill out and what she has to do if I got this ripoff Per Diem in a pay check is take the days I was out (counted off of my logs) then take that paltry bit of cash on the W-2 then figure the difference and then file on it but because it's another page ole BFI can get the credit for screwing you out of that money also! Not to mention that IRS tax credit you would have gotten!

Yeah, I would not turn the key for a thief! Not any of them no matter if they wear black spandex and a mask or a business suit!

IDC whats on the marquee in front of the building!

And cut the miles from drivers, putting trailers on rail like there is no end. Getting rid of people in the office who have been there 20-25 years.
Forcing drivers onto perdeim, so Marten doesn't have to pay as much taxes, social sercuirty.
Sliding pay scale, the more you run the less your paid. So needless to say you run your ### off on the short 3oo mile loads.

Ya no wonder Marten made money
