Programs like PC Miler

Discussion in 'Trucking Electronics, Gadgets and Software Forum' started by Pedy6Pak, May 22, 2007.

  1. Ok,
I am wondering if buying one of the programs like PC Miler for my laptop is worth it. I have a GPS (Lowrance Iway 500C) in my pick up, but it does not show truck routes. It has helped out many times while pulling my RV. Is it worth the expense for a program to put on the lap top? If you use one, do you have an external antenna plugged into your computer? How much did you pay for the program?

What do you experienced drivers think of these programs? Do you use them on the road. If I had one, I would still compare the route with my Rand McNally, but it could sure help when in the city limits.

    Thanks,
    Pedy6Pak

I, too, am looking into either PC Miler or CoPilot Truck 9. The web sites don't list alot of differences. I'll be watching this thread with interest!

    Thanks!!

While PCMiler certianly helps with routing. The basic program will not give you the information you seek, within cities.

Check their website for hardware and software. You'll find exactly what you're looking for. They have a lot of items that make using PCMiler a simplier task. And some of the added features can only be gained through the use of their hardware.

  5. Thanks for the info danc694u,
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I just got home last night from the Indy 500. Stayed at my Great Aunts house in New Paris, Ohio and had no internet available to me.

Do you use this hardware you are talking about and if so, how do you like it.

I use PC miller for figureing load miles and delorme for the actual trip planning. It is the best i have ever used i used several others but delorme is by far the best for the money that i have used and i allways have a lap top or computer running in the truck and beeing able to drive right to the door of your customer with out a phone call really makes them think this guy has his stuff together.

  7. kd5drx,
Do you have an external antenna hooked up to your computer? I googled delorme, what one do you use. Do they have one that is for trucks?

You can get a brand new LT-20 on ebay for around $30 + shipping. Or go to GPSnow & you can find everything you could ever need in GPS hardware or software. If your laptop has bluetooth you should try the i-blue 737......I have one that I use with my Axim and it works GREAT!!

I was using DeLorme and it did ok, but also put me into no truck zones way too often. That is why I'm looking at a trucker map program.
