Hello, This is my first post. You all seem most helpful.

Is there a list of no can drive common ailments? My friend said that he lost or gave up his CDL because of a kidney stone. I was wondering if there were other ailments that could hinder or make obtaining a CDL impossible? I have been studying and thought to wait until I can pass a physical perhaps. The only thing wrong with me is smoking and beer-coffee-pop-tea have ruined my teeth :brushteeth: some though I chose to hang on to and still have them for the time. Any help would be appreciated I am clean and sober for years and 40.
Thanks in adv.![]()

Once you pass a kidney stone you should be ok to drive....I cant imagine every driver has not had a kidney stone. Thankfully, I have not.

diabetes will if you have to take shots to control it

Kidney Stone won't prevent you from driving permanently.. hurt like heck till you pass it, but can drive after..
Insulin dependant diabetes, stage 3 hypertension, non-correctable vision or hearing, injuries that prevent full range of motion or limit lifting are just a few. -

On a standard DoT physical they check:
Blood Pressure / Pulse
Sight (correctable to 20/20)
Hearing (not sure the minimum requirement)
Urine (for sugar and other crap that might indicate a health problem)
Throat / Ears (for infections, etc...)
Height / Weight
It seems DoT physicals are pretty easy to pass as long as you don't have any major health problems.
Once you have your CDL though, I think companies are more choosy about who they give a job. All of the companies I have checked with do a "job requirements test". A set of physical tests during which your heart rate cannot go too high. Of course, you need to be able to perform the tests, period. I know Roehl asks new recruits to be able to get under, and out from under a trailer without touching the ground or the trailer with their hands. I tried this the other day, and I'm in pretty good physical shape. It was a bit of a work out! Plus I'm only 5'7".
Disclaimer: I haven't driven a semi, nor have I been employed by an OTR company for about 7 years. The above is based on my research and current experiences as I'm getting back into this industry. -
