    Myth 4: Drinking out of aluminum cans or cooking in aluminum pots and pans can lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

    Reality: During the 1960s and 1970s, aluminum emerged as a possible suspect in Alzheimer’s. This suspicion led to concern about exposure to aluminum through everyday sources such as pots and pans, beverage cans, antacids and antiperspirants. Since then, studies have failed to confirm any role for aluminum in causing Alzheimer’s. Experts today focus on other areas of research, and few believe that everyday sources of aluminum pose any threat.

    My wife and I have been on a little bit of a Lentil kick lately. They're very inexpensive, very healthy and very tasty when cooked following a good recipe. So, after reading some of the posts here I thought I'd do some searching for cooking Lentils in a crockpot.

    Here's what I found. Sounds good. You could easily add some chopped chicken or pork to this too. Just get the butcher at the Walmart to cut it for you to make it really easy.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    1. Gather all ingredients to be sure you have everything you need. Remember you can adjust the ingredients to your own taste. Taste from time to time to determine if more salt or other seasoning is needed. You can always add more but can never take away too much.
    2. Rinse and look over lentils. Remove anything that does not look like a lentil or does not appear to be in good shape. Chops all ingredients into bite sizes.
    3. Combine all ingredients into crock pot and set on "high" for 4 to 5 hours. Check to be sure all ingredients are tender. If not continue cooking and check back in 10 to 15 minutes.
    • crock pot
    • 12 oz bag of lentils
    • 4 red potatoes (peeled or not)
    • 1 small yellow onion
    • 2 to 3 cups of carrots
    • 1/8 cup chopped green pepper
    • 1 can of diced tomatoes with liquid
    • 1 or 2 bouillon cubes (chicken, vegetable, or beef)
    • garlic powder, salt, pepper, bay leaf, marjoram, sage, black pepper to taste.
    • 2 cups of water
    I'd invest in one of those heavy duty foil broiler containers and put this together before heading down the road. Plug the Crock pot in and put it in the foil container in case of any spills.
    Lady K Thanks this.
    I LOVE LENTILS!!! My Wife fixes them so good. I have one problem especially with Lentils for some reason. I bloat up like a ballon and become a Walking Methane Refinery. I mean I could power a cruise ship with all of that gas. They effect me like no other beans. I mean with most beans, I get a little gas, but with lentils, it's an explosion. :biggrin_25521:
    Haha. Well then, you should put your application in with Norwegian Cruse Lines or Carnival. :)
    The receipe looks generic enough that you could substitute any other sort of bean you'd do better on, and the food would be fine.
    Just do us a favor... if you do have an incipient "explosion" coming on, stand upwind of a Swiftie!
