We are seeking truckers/travelers who would be interested in beta Testing an app. Our goal is to release the app free of charge, from sponsorships.

The app uses GPS and mapping software on Android based phones to plot areas of interest to travelers (internet access and GPS will not be absolutely required), and to allow you to view the available amenities, location and contact info.

    Truckstops
    truckwashes
    parking
    rest areas
    truck friendly hotels
    weigh stations
    and other areas of interest.

We are seeking any input, suggestions and some beta testers. The project is in the early stages (under a two weeks of development), but coming along nicely.

The video below shows our first alpha build, our current database contains over 50,000 points of interest. We will be adding icons for each major brand, to make it easier to spot the ones you want.

Filtering is a high priority, and one hand/voice operation is our goal.

    Would airports be of use?

How does someone go about being a Beta Tester?

Also, is your APP intended for just truckers or travelers in general? If it's just for truckers I wouldn't think Airports would be useful but if it's for general travelers then those might be of some use.

I'd be interested in Beta testing for you. My current phone is a Droid Incredible, running a custom rom.

You said you needed ideas on things to list under other, unless it's somewhere else you could list WiFi under there.

    Katey,

Truckers is our target group. I am designing it with assistance from my brother in law (until recently, a long haul trucker).

The only prerequisite for beta testers would be owning an android device ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system) ) and asking to test it. We are shooting to start beta testing in the first half of February.

    Coonass,

We have wifi access listed as an amenity under truckstops and hotels, however the data is sparse. Hopefully users will be willing to use a reportback button, to add content.

I will send you a PM as soon as a beta is ready. We plan to keep it free.

I, personally, would suggest having a free, ad supported version, and a paid version with no ads. I know for me, if I really like an app, I would much rather pay a few bucks to get rid of the ads then deal with em all the time.

If we can come up with enough sponsorship from companies, we will be able to maintain the databases, without any other revenue. That's the goal, otherwise I will likely take your suggestion.

Mobile ad revenue does not bring much (for me in the past). Few cents per click, not normally worth annoying users for that.
