I've never had any issues with my GN Buick, or any of the several other friends I have that own them. Most of us have pretty large aftermarket turbos and intercoolers along with other mods. I push 435hp with 29-31 lbs of boost and have yet to see a need for one. I don't know of any factory turbo cars that came with a BOV...Buicks didn't,not even the famed GNX, but a foreign turbo car may have. Other than all out non-street race machines they're not needed.

    dude, 20-anything isnt necessary.

be in a hurry to take your time on the pedal, cause you cant rush these things.

roll onto the pedal, once rpm are around 1500-1600 roll off, and as your rolling off slot the next gear and repeat..

its not hard, but all about timing .

Shift at 1600? I am going into my third week driving that truck consistently I will try your method tomorrow, so far (before I learned of the higher rpms) I was shifting it at 17 and I was only having timing issues on 7 hi to 8 Lo

    um no.

Wastegates prevent overspeeding the turbo. They vent excess drive pressure around the turbine wheel.

Blow off valves prevent compressor surge due to a rapid descent in drive pressure. (I.E. Jumping off the throttle while under load rapidly.

you may need a few more rpms to avoid lugging after the change, but thats a good starting point.

use the minimal amount of rpm to get the job done = better mpgs.
