just don't tell them. everyone on here will piss and moan how horrible it is to do that and all the bad things that will happen to you. I had one in 98. Never told anyone and it never came up. I'm sure there are companies who do run a background. Big deal, they won't hire you. A lot of companies will. As many drivers who are looking for work, I wouldn't give anyone a reason to not hire you. They also say on here if you lie and they find out later, they will fire you. Big deal. You got to make a couple bucks. DAC is a joke and a lot of companies don't run it. So even if they fire you and ding your DAC, who cares?
Yes, I have a felony record

Erichen20,
I had a driver come in a few weeks ago with a 20 year felony on his record. I didn't ask him about it, he volunteered the information. I do not have a problem with it and believe everyone needs a second chance. He's served his time, paid his debt to society, and now he is out and looking for work. The only issue our transportation director said we might have is with the type of conviction it was and if it will affect his insurability. Other than that, I don't see a reason why we would not hire him.
UTurn55 Thanks this. -
""That is your application"" you act like your the only job that anyone can work for jeesh. I would hate to work for youTake a chill pill.
There are plenty of other job's that do not ask for 7 or 10 year's background checks. Keep searching you will find one, don't let these people contradict how your life should be or what to do the only way to find out is by taking chance's. -
I bet you all are getting tired of all us ol boys with felony questions, anyway I'm getting ready too attend a trucking school, and yes I have a receiving stolen property felony from 1978 and did 90 days in a Disneyland jail. I also have a DUI from 1985 and a few misdemeanors from before 1980. Should I even admit to these when looking for a job. No drug convictions ever or violent crimes either. I have gone to the has mat to be finder printed first so I'll know what may come from that end, but I have not received my results yet.
Also in the last 20 years I've been to Canada and back around 75 times driving my car or pickup truck. I've met some a hole Canuk border agents but I've never been denied entry. Maybe because there so old and I live in WA. State and all my stupid youth crimes were in Calif. with very strict reporting laws.
So what do yall think am I wasting my time, I also have a very clean driving record and I'm 54 years old. Also I'm Bonded Lic.and Ins.right now as I'm a General Contractor and need to be to work in peoples homes, 2,000,000 bond.
Thanks -

I'm sorry but you couldn't be more wrong with your dangerous information. The problem is not the felony it's with the job application. Granted there are many companies that do not rely on any type of reporting system but the companies that do are the ones that are most likely the ones that will hire a new driver. So you get caught lying on your job application and then the companies could care less about your past record. They now know you lie and that is where the problem is.
You're going to take a chance to get hired on by lying thinking that if you get caught it's no big deal. When in fact you just limited yourself to fewer companies. Why not tell the truth and take your chances with just one company? You never give information that is not asked and you never lie if it is. Plain and simple. You got lucky and are the exception and NOT the example. -
What's even worse is when you have a school that charges $3,500 for an A+ Course that could have been taken at a Community College for $250+230 for the Text Book. And then tell students they will be Network Technicians, never mind the min requirement to be NET+, or CCNA Certified for the most basic positions. And never mind the 88% of all employers who require an ATA in Computer Information Systems to even be considered for a job.
Buddy of mine signed up for an Oregon School after finishing HS. Spoke to me while in HS how he'll make $80,000 annual salary. Two years now, substandard curriculum that wasn't even enough to take the A+ Cert to pass, Didn't have enough to undergo the test for CCENT, CCNA, nor CCSP. And $64,000 later, he has a Bachelors degree that is completely useless and not recognized by anyone else but the specific institution he went to. Only thing he has that's transfered from the School, is his A+ Cert, and his Net+ Cert so he can work at Best Buy for $11.80 an hour.(Everyone's heard of the school I'm talking about, commercials are on TV all the time)
Government DOES need to get involved with Cert Mills. Or at least pass laws that require a school to denounce ALL information about the industry, and actual practicality on what you can do with what Certs. (even CDLs) -
But this ^^^^^^^^^ is bad. Very, very bad.
Some jobs, you GO TO JAIL for witholding criminal information of your past. A place I did work at, an Registered Nurse with a Masters Degree, pulling $67K as a Charge Nurse, lost her job, and is serving time right now. strip of her License, job, her assets (fine was $500,000) etc. All because she "forgot" to devulge to the medical installation, and the Board of Nursing, that she had an Physical Assault Charge back when she was 14 y/os. Misdemeanor, but because per Federal Law, you cannot work as a Nurse, or anyform of Medical Occupation outside of Transcription and Medical Billing with anykind of alcohol related, or physical charges for anyform of physical assault, or verbal assault on another.
That's because of a Misdemeanor that was tossed under the rug when she turned 18. Law doesn't care, what they care about, is the fact that at one point in her life, she was convicted/charged with physical assault on a girl back when she was 14 y/o.
She is 48 Y/Os now.
I-9 Verification, doesn't just link you as a citizen, it cross checks your social/name with all 50 states and Fed Gov files, and your profession to cross check if you're in legal standing for the job on all accounts. Not just to check citizenship.
If it wasn't for the I-9, she would have completely forgotten about it like she already had, and the NCLEX wouldn't have ever known. Which, turned from a Misdemeanor at age 14, into a Class A Felony at age 48. With Jailtime, strip of title/license, loss of job, a $500,000 fine, and looking at a 7 year jail sentence.
Not disclosing information, unless otherwise stated specifically on the application, or stated specifically on the criteria for a certification, you can make matters far, far worse for yourself than they ever had to be.
