Dear Druid,
We are coming up on seven months now since our tragic loss of Joshua, still no answers. On the contrary, we are getting theories from the NYPD of what "might" have happened to Josh. Is it possible for a truck, any type of truck to run over someone in the road without realizing this was a person that was just run over? is it possible for someone to be reading (at 3:30 in the morning) their daily schedule and thinking that they had just run over a bag or a log in the road?. I know this runs along the river but are there many logs on West Street in the West village? Is it possible for such an instance as a truck catching a piece of clothing, dragging a 130 pound person and tangling him in their wheels without knowing they had done so? As time goes on I have been most unfortunate for doctors and other authority figures to tell me of my childs injuries, it is most frightful how my son lived his last few moments and has forever left a vivid memory etched in my mind. I guess I am asking you all these questions, is it possible for such things to happen on a main road without knowing what one has done? Thank you all for your time and continued concern and please keep us in your prayers for some type of closure. also, if you all could remember Joshua on June 3rd and maybe blast your horns in honor of his 25th birthday, I'll be listening as we travel to Buffalo, NY to spend time with Josh's fiancee'.
Sincerely,
Josh's family!
The death of my son on Westside Highway.

Send a reminder and I will honk for him! Bless your heart
.
I have heard of drivers running over things and hitting things and never realizing what they have done. I don't know if this situation is possible and I am sure many drivers will respond shortly.
All I can say is I feel your pain and I would be the same as I am close to all of my kids. I dreed the day they move for this very reason. -
I have just returned from yet another trip to Manhattan on my quest to find any information on Josh's death. As alway's, no help from anyone which still has me believing there is a cover-up with the NYPD. That means that maybe an 18 wheeler did not run over and disfigure my son, maybe it was them. As most of you know who travel West Street, AKA The Westside highway. This is a very heavily traveled stretch of road. On this particular morning there is no one around, no one walking or driving on the highway for at least an hour? Only one 18 wheeler that has mysteriously disappeared? When Josh was found, the EMS report states that his body was already cold, (it was 75 degrees that morning) this doesn't happen in a matter of minutes. My wife has been a critical care nurse for 25 years and knows how long it takes for a body to get cold. I am still seeking everyones help here and appreciate all the posts, it truly means more than you all think. I think of my son every minute of the day and tell him daily that as long as I am here to search for his murderer, that is what I will do and not rest until an apprehension has taken place. Someone took my son's life in a terrible way, so much that Josh was nearly unrecognizable because he was "hit" very hard by a very fast moving vehicle. Thank you all and please remember to give Josh a blast of the horns on June 3rd at 3:24 PM, the exact time of his birth 25 years ago in Largo, Florida.
Respectfully,
Jimmy C
Josh's dad -
AS I have stated before I can not even relate to what you are feeling. I know I would be a basket case if I lost one of my children.
I do wonder if maybe someone hit him and doesn't have a clue they hit him.
Unfortunately these drunks (was married to one) do things when they are wasted and have no idea what they did the night before. THis is my only conclusion to this accident. If it was a truck driver the only reason I am sure they don't want to admit to it is because they have a family and need to support them. Is it right, hell no!
I am sure which ever way, one day they will come to piece with you and explain why, how etc.
In the mean time make sure you are taking care of yourself
I say all this in a loving motherly way. God could I never ever imagine what you feel and the pain you have went through. I do know that my friends lost their kids and have moved on but it was tough. The thank god know how, why and all them answers us parents have questions for.
God will tell you who, why etc. when he feels it is time for you to know. Maybe there is a reason he doesn't want you to know yet. Your day will come and you will have them answers! If it is the cops, we will all go kick their u know what -
I'm sorry for the loss you have sustained. And I hope you find the answers you are searching for soon.
For the questions of whether you can run over a person/body and not feel it. Yes it is very possible. A semi can legally weigh up to 80,000 lbs and a 200 or less lb body would easily not be felt.
Once I had a Honda side swipe dive into the side of a small stock trailer behind a pick up and I never felt it. Never would have had a clue they hit me if I hadn't seen them in the mirror exactly when they did it. Only a very small scuff on a tire that I wouldn't have thought any thing about other wise. -
iam not a truck driver (my Grandfather was) but feal deeply for your loss
i would say go to the union and try to get there help.
call the TEAMSTERS
Drivers logs are sent in to DOT and i THINK they check them BUT never know look at the IRS?
but anyway if they see a pattern of one driver taking this route at that time over a period of time and on said date changed their route id start with that guy.
if this was on an episod of CSI or NUMBERS it would be solved in 45mins but this is real life. -
The logs are not routinely sent into DOT. Each company by law is required to keep record of them for 6 months, but after that they can purge their records.
IF such a system were in place it would make sense to check there, but since this death is more than 7 months ago it won't do any good. -
Thank you to all who have tried to help me with your suggestions and concerns. Three months ago I started a new job and before that I only sat at home and stared at the wall for literally two months, losing 25 pounds in doing so. Josh is such an energetic kid that I could feel him saying "get off your butt and go to work Pop and investigate when your done with your day". that is what I am doing, everyday when I get home the first thing I do is get on-line to search for any clues. I went to New York last week and had an official tell me that, "as of now, the case is not open until we find out some more information". What they really are saying is that, when I give them some more information, which I have done all along. I feel that there is some type of cover-up because three months ago a young police officer in the same district was stopped for a DWI while driving an SUV. Please don't you all give up on me as I need your help until there is an end. And wouldn't it be something if a bunch of 18 wheelers drove into the city to kick the butts of the NYPD as mentioned earlier, I would of course need to get a lift from someone because I have got to throw the first punch. Thanks again!
Regards,
Jimmy C
Josh's dad -
Well first my condolences to you, its tough when you have no answers or closure.
A few questions that I have no business asking, but we have opened a dialoug here and I am wondering.
1. Did toxicology show any drugs or alcohol in his system?
2. Were his injuries consistant with being hit while standing? or laying down?
I have a very analytical mind, and I also understand that nothing justifies knowingly hitting someone and then leaving the scene.
Skidmarks may indicate vehicle was traveling at a fair speed, this being the case, is there a reason someone would not notice a vehicle traveling toward them? I do understand that it is NY, and people simply walk regardless of traffic as long as they have the right of way. People in NY are so used to walking and crossing streets that they become complacent in the fact that the person in the car will stop.
A couple of thoughts....
Wallet may have been stolen by someone after the fact, NY has allot of people looking for an opportunity to "score"....and in fact, the wallet I would think was taken by someone else and then ditched. As I would think a truck driver in the wrong, would be more worried about getting out of there than taking a wallet.
It is possible to have little or no damage from a collision with a person, depending on where the collision happened, and infact, in a big truck and proper conditions it is possible that the driver never knew he hit anything.
Back up beep may have been totally unrelated, they are loud and travel far.
EMT saying body "cold" is not necessarily saying he was there for a long time, a body can feel cold after 30-45 minutes. The medical examiner should have been able to better assess the time of death.
People in NY are used to seeing people laying all over, passed out, homeless, etc, it may simply have been an oversight by some passerby.
Again sorry for your loss.

My son was intoxicated on the morning he was murdered!
There were no witnesses and yes someone stole his wallet before or after the crash.
For someone to lay on the Westside Highway for even ten minutes is very hard to believe.
Whoever hit Josh (and yes the driver knew what he had done) was going very fast. While I was getting information from the medical examiner at Bellevue Hospital and he told me how my child was broken up very badly and nearly twisted in half, I ask him if the driver knew that he had hit someone? his reply was "yes, absolutely".
Thank you for you questions and theories!
Sincerely,
Jimmy C
