    Wish I could find my little green book to see if the reg was still in place requiring company name to be a minimum of 42" off the ground. That would certainly preclude the use of fuel tanks for idenitying vehicles.

    For some things my memory is a steel trap, for other things it's more like a pasta strainer! :biggrin_2559::biggrin_25522:

    Ya that's how the rig that I drive is setup. All the info is on the little door to the compartments on the sleeper. Looks nice

    Commercial Vehicles (HB 4673/PA 96-1179): Increases the minimum fine to $500 for commercial trucks that fail to display the name of the company on the side of the vehicle.

    §390.21 Marking of self-propelled CMVs and intermodal equipment.

    (c) Size, shape, location, and color of marking. The marking must'
    (c)(1) Appear on both sides of the self-propelled CMV;
    (c)(2) Be in letters that contrast sharply in color with the background on which the letters are placed;
    (c)(3) Be readily legible, during daylight hours, from a distance of 50 feet (15.24 meters) while the CMV is stationary; and
    (c)(4) Be kept and maintained in a manner that retains the legibility required by paragraph (c)(3) of this section.

    Doesnt specify that it needs to be on the door.

    Good to have reference to the actual verbal diarrhea put out by the DOT legal types.

    I knew a guy that had his letters & numbers several different contrasting colors if I remember right it was 4 different colors, so it was hard to read, but was supposedly legal, he commited suicide about 3 years ago, so I cant ask him anything.

    That's the fed. Some states have stricter guidelines.

    When it comes to something like this don't they have to go by Federal guidelines?

    The states can enact stricter, but not lower standards. Michigan requires more information than the fed.

    they may also be cracking down on the amount of rented or borrowed tractors that fail to display that information correctly. i have seen numerous tractors with the MCC and DOT and name written on a piece of cardboard and taped to the door.
