Your right MedicineMan that was a subjective term. Money to means just enough for the basics feeding my wife and kids, providing a roof over there heads and making sure they have cloths and school supplies, ect. I would say worth it to me as a owner operator after I eventially own my own tractor and trailer is the freedom to be in complete control of all my loads and set up my own accounts from shipers and not to micromanaged. My wife is a great accountant and also has a tax ID to handle and does peoples taxes. So she could be my DM and set up the accounts. I don't know if this is how it can really work or if Im dreaming. This is my american dream :biggrin_255: I guess I could ask if this is a dream worth keeping? Oh and how must your credit score be to lease to own a truck and trailer? I believe I may have started posting this topic in the wrong thread :biggrin_25512:

Just a shot in the dark but try changing the fuel filter, even if it was changed recently. Just one batch of fuel with too much water in it can sometimes clog them. Have you recently ran the tanks low or always buy fuel from the same place???

I had to chuckle when I saw the first post. I operate out of south jersey and my first couple of weeks as an o/o I was floored at the price of tolls in the northeast.

when the ez pass went out on my truck i believe it cost 45 dollars to run south thru delaware on 95...13 miles for 45 bucks.. what a sham!! when i get my truck i have a lane i want to run and thank god the only toll i have to worry about really is going up the West Virginia Turnpike... and thats only 20 dollars for the whole 70 miles which isnt bad compared to the northeast!!

Man I feel your pain. I'm two months into this and my first week out I had loads all lined up. First PU was a 5 1/2 hour load, snow and ice from IL to CO (slow going), Snow and ice from CO to OH, (slow going), Then load to TX (looking forward to warmth). Then I learned the meaning of Cheap Freight.

It gets better. Look for shorter loads. They pay better. I am finding I can take home twice as much and drive 30-50% less with loads under 500 miles (and they are likely to be lighter).

According to Landline magazine cheap tolls are about to be a thing of the past in West Virginia. I guess they're broke like every other state and think that trucks should pay $20/$30 at every booth like they happily do on the east coast. I remember when Kentucky used to have toll booths on the William Natcher Parkway and a few other "interstates". You paid anywhere from $.75 to a $1.25 at every booth, real cheap, they tore those down a few years ago after they paid off the cost of building the road, just like they said they would and were supposed to do. Now fuel taxes cover maintinence. That's how it should be. But too frikken many of these states see trucks (and fourwheelers) as easy pickings, like candy from a baby, and use toll roads to finance all kinds of wasteful spending that has absolutely nothing to do with highway maintinence...

And why is it that the states with the highest fuel tax seem to have the worst roads? Oh wait, because they use that money to fund other projects then raise the fuel tax or create a toll road.
