Ah, yes... Just another example of the government further regulating those who will not accept personal responsibility. Unfortunately, it will affect ALL the drivers -- including those who NEED that extra half-hour or so to find a safe place to park -- not just those who snub their noses at the currrent regulations and drive 'til they're ready to drop.

Wake up, folks. Big Brother is watching and it ain't good.

What are the chances of them putting them in 4 wheelers. Tired driver is a tired driver no matter what size vehicle it is.

There wouldn't be support for this kind of legislation if drivers weren't taking the "lie/cheat/steal" approach to their logbooks.

Unfortunately, drivers have no one to blame for this but themselves. The general public is tired of the "outlaw" mentality, and they are making it well known.

The BIGGEST CAUSE(S) of the "lie/cheat/steal" approach in logbook management is:

    1. Some shippers require a driver to be present on the dock; either to load the truck, or to count the product being put on the truck. Also, some shippers keep a truck for HOURS before it is loaded, or even while it is being loaded. SOLUTION: Shipper LOADS and COUNTS the product. SHIPPER is given an allotment of time to begin/end the loading process; providing the driver is ON TIME.
    2. Some receivers require the driver to unload/break-down a load (violating Federal Laws) and sometimes keeps driver for hours during this process. SOLUTION: MakeReceiver responsible for ALL unloading provided driver arrives ON-TIME. Drivers should not have to be present for product break-down, Receiver can count product as it comes off the trailer.
    3. Most drivers are paid by the mile. If a driver spends too much time at the dock; either for loading or unloading purposes, the time he is allowed to drive is affected and many "fudge" to make up for this. SOLUTION: REPEAL the Fair Wages Exemption Statute that exempt truckdrivers from getting OVERTIME PAY, pay the drivers a FAIR WAGE for ALL HOURS spent driving and "On Duty, Not Driving". This would encourage drivers to log all time spent at the dock on Line 4, as they should.

I agree with Duck's on this one. Try to find a place to park in Roanoke or Chicago at 9 pm. The obvious answer is better trip planning but sometimes it is unavoidable and you may have exceed the 11 hours to find a place to park.

I learned "Better Trip Planning" when I was with Landstar. But now with the advent of "IdleAir", all that education is lost. IdleAir has replaced only 2/3 of the spaces they tore up, and even far less if you wish to be comfortable when it is HOT or COLD; even if you are fortunate to have an APU on your truck, PLUS....IdleAir can designate the ENTIRE place as a "IDLE FREE ZONE", and I was told they can ask you to leave if you are NOT using their service and a subscriber needs it. [IMG]They allow reefers to run all night long...but NO APU Units. Try to find a parking space after 5 PM in Roanoak or even Knoxville.
