Can anybody tell me what the heck was going on today on I-80 here in PA? I had to drive over to Carlisle, and ran across I-80 to avoid paying the tolls for the turnpike, and Good Lord! Once I got to about the 190(ish) milemarker, I was finding accidents and cars off the road almost every mile going to Milton! Including a jack-knifed truck in the west-bound lane (complete with decorative 4-wheeler smacked into the trailer tandems)! It wasn't icy that I noticed, or even slippery. Was wet out, rained for a good part of the morning, but I saw plenty of spray coming off all the vehicles I saw (and wiped most of it off my windsheild, too!). Had a bit of time with ice on the windsheild and mirrors, but my tires still had excellent traction, and I never once felt like my Jimmy was gonna slide. WTF?

That's just it, Nik...there was no reason that I could see for all this crap!! Now, I don't know about the jackknife in the west bound lane, but one of the screw-ups I saw was a rental truck pulling a minivan on a trailer in the east-bound. Looked to me like the trailer decided in wanted to go in front for a while, and took both vehicles clean off the road. Nobody looked hurt, and the cops and emergency services people were out in full force, so I kept on rolling (had to meet people for a malamute rescue run, couldn't be late. Dog's life literally in the balance.) Still, it would have been understandable if the roads had been slippery but they weren't! Great gods people need to learn HOW TO BLOODY DRIVE!!! If they couldn't handle today, how are they ever gonna get anywhere when the Spring rains come?

    rocknroll nik Thanks this.

I hear ya brsims. I seen a bunch on my trip the last four weeks. But i'll tell ya.. I thought I could drive and did for ten years without a wreck then three weeks ago it was my turn to be the one murphy's law kicked in the ###. Made me more respectful. not that I was'nt. Most times it's cause people don't know how to drive i'll agree to that.

80 seems to be like that every time the weather gets bad. I run between Clearfield and Sunbury a lot. Always a good amount of wrecks on those mornings when we get snow or its a little icy. I still havent found out what went through the gaurdrail around the 155-156 on the eastbound side coming down the backside of snowshoe. Can tell you it looked like a long way down.

Yeah, I saw the "hole" in the guard rail as I went past this morning. I bet that was a fun ride...NOT! What with all the trouble I saw on the 80 this morning, I decided to run the turnpike back to I-79 to come home this afternoon. Cost more in gas running that way, and I HATE running the turnpike (bloody boringest piece of pavement in the whole ###### country, if you ask me)! Still, I didn't get into slippery conditions until I was a good bit north of the I-80 back here in the wester part of the state (sorry...Commonwealth...blah....)
