i would never claim to be a pro grease monkey. i will drive as long as i can pass the physicals.
i have done lots of maintenance on ships and vehicles.
i maintain my vehicles to tjhe extreme.
i have wd and penetrating oil and lot of stuff on my bench.
at work we use wd on our tarp strap ratchets so they go fast.
my black and decker is over 15 years old and works good and i have no need to upgrade.

    Another patently stupid statement!

I have all kinds of tools in my boxes, Snap-On, MAC, Cornwell, Black and Decker, Stanley, Home Depot, Pittsburgh (Harbor Freight cheapo's) and quite a few home made tools that work well and get the job done...I have WD-40 and Brakekleen and a lot of other stuff that get's the job done.

The common denominator is that they "get the job done".

Laughed out of the shop for having a certain brand of tools or lubricants?
Not at any shop that I've ever been in and I've been in more than a couple.

Seems like you've done a lot of stuff in your life....Professional mechanic for 10 years, addicted to morphine and unable to function for 5 years, homeless, worked in the high tech industry, high end aircraft, trucking and all of the other stuff you claim in your posts to have done and last but not least...Teller of tall tales!:biggrin_2559:

It pushes hard at the bounderies of credibility, to say the least.:yes2557:

if we only had to work part time we could go buy tools and lubricants used by the aerospace industry
glad i was able to hi jack the thread but we are hear to find out how they justify signing the swift "lease purchase"
im glad i got the experience and moved on and am free to go any where.
been in the same job for a long time but am always comparing in case an opportunity to do better come along

It has been firmly established....There is no justification for doing something that foolish.

Obviously you are not a professional mechanic. One does not see WD-40 or Black and Decker in a professional shop.

For amateurs, yes. In professional service, no.

OK. Show up for work with Stanley tools, or crap made in China. Let me know how that works out for you.

LPS is fine, and you can buy it at Ace Hardware. For cordless tools, Makita is pretty much the standard. I'm just saying that in case someone wants to really know what professionals use. If you want to hear from wannabe mechanics (imagine that), and what they use around their homes, that's fine too.

Wow! You figured that out all by yourself? Nope, I'm not a professional mechanic any more than you are or ever were!
I'm an O/O and have been for a really long time and the tools that I use are for working on my equipment...They seem to work fine.

Just as if you have a clue about any of that.

If I did show up for work as a mechanic, No one would say anything about my tools as long as the work was done in a satisfactory manner.
Sorry to burst your "tool snob" bubble lady but I've seen many different types and brands of tools in working shops and the tools seemed to work pretty well in a competent mechanics hands....

Who told YOU what tools a professional mechanic uses?:biggrin_25523:
    A tool snob.....Priceless!:biggrin_2559:

    I'm having a problem here.

Snap On was THE tool of choice at a lot of shops as they came right to the door, sold or ordered the tool the mechanic needed AND set up an easy payment plan! Same with Mac Tools! Stanley? Nothing wrong with a hardware brand as they work.
Black and Decker? Whats your problem there? I have Black and Decker and they got drowned in the floods of 2000 here at my home and that WD 40 saved every one of them but my Makita drill motor didn't survive and it was 1 year old and the B&Ds were at least 15 for the youngest and guess what? They are STILL running today! Same with the Craftsman power tools!

As for any mechanics "laughing " someone out of the shop for having something other that what you deem THE tool, well I've been in more shops that you'll ever see from flight lines to every dealer out there and company shops and I've seen everything from Craftsman (Sears),Mac, KB and German made all the way down to Chinese attempts at tool making, but as long as the tool does it's job no one cares how much it cost!

That includes tools the mechanic made out of flat steel, tubing, plastic with a welder, glue and a grinder as the tool for the job cost more than the job paid! Make it yourself as that's what a GOOD mechanic might have to do to get the job done! I won't even go into electrical testing equipment made with $1.00 rolls of wire , alligator clips, Radio Shack resistors, bulbs, fuses and other things needed. I have a few of those in MY tool pouch for the truck! Why store bought if I really want something made overseas when my hands do better work!

As for WD40 I've seen cans of it in every shop I've ever walked into! Not to mention cheap brake cleaner sprays! OH! Super Glue and Elmers for those stick to it jobs!

High dollar does NOT mean better anything! That goes for cars, motorcycles, trucks, aircraft, women and tools!
