    Hi guys,

First thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you even more if you can offer some guidance. I have read all the threads pertaining to drivers with felony's and being employed in the industry. The point is to be honest and keep trying. I get it. My question is this, my felony is almost 7 years old, (it is 7 calender years old, but not 7 years to the date of conviction) the conviction is out of California for 459pc burglary second degree. Before you think I was breaking into stores I wasn't, I was writing bad checks, in California you have committed a burglary if you enter a store with the intent to commit larceny or any other felony, and the way it was explained to me was I knew there was no money in the checking account so I intended to pass this worthless paper for merchandise and that fits the definition of the crime.
Now to my question can some one respond with a list of trucking companies that will sponser your trucking school with a felony that is less than 10 years old. I understand that CRST and CR England accept felonies 10 years old but that doesn't help me. I also understand that under the FCRA there is no limit on reporting felonies (except California which is 7 years) How dose this play a a roll since I'm in California, I have yet to see a application that notes this limitation so my supposition is that this limitation to the FCRA is largely ignored. Can someone please give me a lead on whom to apply with.
    Thank you all
    Keith

Check some of the other trucking forums such as www.classadrivers.com. They have a company listing that gives basic requirements and their policy on felonies. I don't know if this forum has a company listing.

You can also find a truck stop and check some of the ads. It may be a matter of doing some leg work. Some companies will hire you after 5 years as long as the rest of your record is clean.

You may also check your local state employment office. They should have information about some trucking companies. At one time, California had a program to help felons get their CDL and find jobs in the trucking industry. I would expect your state employment office to have information about it. Some companies have gotten away from their training schools. Swift, Roehl, Millis, Covenant, US Xpress have all done training. Most companies have hiring limitations.

You might look at Carolina Cargo out of S.C. They take ex-felons right out of the starting gate. However, the pay is low, but they do coast to coast runs. (teams). They were rumored to be in BK last year, but, I see them running on I-40 often. C.R. England takes ex-felons too, not sure how old the conviction has to be. Your choices will be limited. (with the conviction).
