Maybe this $3.00 a gallon plus fuel cost will run these throat cutting companies hauling freight for a buck a mile out of business.

Man you are selling yourself way short if you think your operating costs are .80 or .90 a mile. Fuel costs at today's prices are over half that a mile. Add in driver pay, truck payment or replacement fund if you don't have a payment, PM costs, licensing and permit costs, tires, major repair fund and you'll find that you are only about 2/3s of the way to what you are really costing per mile. -
I have to agree with brickman again on this one 1.25 or better just to cover expenses these days and thats just a break even spot to make any extra you need to get above that. And the set or dead head question has allways been a dilima do you take the cheap .98 to cover fuel to get you out to some where you can get better. I have the mind set when i take a load out to like CA with a flat bead get round trip money or don't go if it doesn't pay enough for you to dead head out of those cheap places don't go.

I was doing some preliminary calculations on what it would cost to run a truck with all the expenses that I can come up with and found that a used truck that only had a monthly payment of $1400-$1500 a month would still cost $.74 to operate at a $2.59 a gallon. need to punch in how much it changed with prices hovering @ $3.00/Gal not including the driver. So you have to get at least $1.35 a mile to make anything.

All of you #### truckers demanding all this money to haul this crap is driving up the prices of everything. What the hell are you guys thinking!?!?!?

hey...we need to make a living , preferably above the poverty standerd.
with all the costs of owning and operating a truck these days the price's will hafta go up or NO ONE will be moving any frieght, as to the cheap frieght, put it on an go to a better paying area without waiting a week for a decent paying load to a crappy frieght area, or as much as i hate to do it, deadhead to a better area -

LOL, good reply.
Bottom line, because truckers could not even organize a picnic lunch, this and many other issues will never be resolved. -
and i genuinely apologize for my earlier indelicate reply.
