Hi everyone,
I just wanted to take a minute to let you know about my Clear internet that I got about six months ago. I sure love it. It costs me $55.00 a month for a true unlimited plan. This is 4g most of the time and 3g in out areas. This is fast and so far has worked whenever I needed it. (like now, Its the only internet I have) I had some trouble when I first got it as the person at radio shack didnt know what he was doing. Sold me the 4g only plan and it didnt work with the sierra wireless 250u dongle the I bought. This 250u dongle is the only one I would recommend for a OTR driver. 4g is not in every market yet, so you will need to be able to switch to 3g when out of major citys. As for speed, Im not super computer savie so I cant give numbers, but what I can say is it streams netflix and youtube. It downloads large files and everything else. Speed has just been a non-issue for me. feel free to send me a pm if you need to know anything else about it. Its all I can think of for now. I pull a RGN, oversize most of the time and have a lot of permit downtime (no oversize at night) so this has made my life so much better. The customer service has been so nice and they speak English, most have been in Tallahassee FL or Milwaukee WI. Oh, one more thing, It runs on the sprint 4g network. So its just about everywhere....
I hope this helps someone.

Pretty sure they are what used to be 'ClearWire' no? I was told they changed their name because of the horrid reputation they had acquired. If so, they never got ##### for reception in the Jacksonville area before, and my Sprint phone was always 4-5x as fast.

Well this could be true. I dont know. But im using it to type this. I use it in little towns in KY and TN, works. I think, (and im not sure) but they droped the wire off the name when sprint got controlling share. I know some are faster, I see the clear forums are full of people who hate them, thats why I posted this. I dont hate them. I works as it should for me. Its never not worked. Anytime I had a problem they knock large chunks off my bill. Large! Im just saying $55.00 bucks? Never paid more, and after six months, I still love it. I think a lot of the complaints are people comparing it to cable internet. For me I cant compare. Its not as if im going to run a 2000 mile cable out of my truck. My friend tried the Virgin mobile hot spot thing..... slow as dial up. As for me I pretty much only drive in states I can get sweet tea... I dont know how it works in the north east. But I pay now less then I paid just for my nextel with boost mobile ($53.50 for CDMA) and clear internet ($55.00 4g/3g) I cant see myself paying more for something when I get what I need for less. Boost is no contract and unlimited, clear has a contract but it about 40 bucks to end it.
I can tell ya this, if you live here in jax yer gonna get 4g just about everywhere. Look at the coverage map for jax.
If you want to see what im talking about. If your thinking about gettin it. Buy me a beer one after noon and you can play with it all ya want.... Im in the lakewood area off san jose... -
I'm never home! lol
I have a Sprint plan, and will be getting the Epic 4G to use as a mobile hotspot, so I'm covered, I just remember how bad ClearWire was in the past... -
Couldn't find anything regarding roaming to Canada. I did see a 5GB limit for any 3G service though. Looks pretty good as long as you can hit the 4G areas.

So as long as the speeds are decent then they look like a good alternative to the other options at least. I'd be curious to hear from more users who drive OTR out there and are using this service, because you would basically be on the 3G usage unless you are inside one of the metro areas at that time where they serve the 4G. But if the 3G is not bogged down and sparse coverage out in the open areas, then the 4G stuff is all unlimited "bonus" usage in many of the city limits. -
What are the plans and the overage charges? I tried to get more info, but the site refused to give me any without a good zip code.
I have Sprint AND Virgin Mobile, which I'm currently testing to see if I will keep. Virgin just announced that their $40 "unlimited" plan will be throttled to less than 256 kbps after 5 gigs, starting the 15th of this month. I'm waiting to see how that throttling works, and if I can live with it, before I close out the Sprint account. I've used some network shaping tools to put a self imposed 256 kbps speed limit on my browser, and all in all, it's not that bad. Youtube pauses and buffers a little bit, but it's still usable. We'll see how it goes when Virgin does it. The way I see it. throttling is more preferable than overage charges. -
as far as the 4g not working outside of metro.... would you call oak grove ky off of i24 metro? lol Im sittin in the pilot watching netflix. so far i have only used the 3g two times and didnt download much. The one thing that sucks, really sucks! I have no idea how much 3g im using/have used. it has no meter. im sure one day i will be hit with a "real" bill. back in the day with sprint/nextel i would have just let it roll off my back but now boost has spoiled me. for the past couple of years i never paid over the 53.50 so im used to not getting ripped off. but shoot i use the darn thing all the time and after six months never over the limit..... 99% of the time its in 4g mode. i just frickin love this thing and wanted to tell ya'll. as for the post about canada, last time i went to canada i had a real hard time bringing my dog back into the states. im never going back. besides ya'll dont have sweet tea!

This sounds great, but without being able to track how much 3G used? I know from experience both Netflix and a game like World of Warcrack (I know its World of Warcraft but trust me, my first naming is more accurate!
) will eat 5GB of data thruput in very little real time. I did a prepay plan 3G dohickey from Wally World, and I used up the 5GB limit in less than 4 days, only one of which I was connected to the net longer than 3 hrs. In my opinion, the 3G overage is where they're gonna make the money, with 4G being unlimited. I'm already supporting a government, I don't wanna support a corp on top of that
