This is a horrible situation and so unnecessary--my heartfelt condolences go out to her and her loved ones!! I find it hard--NO IMPOSSIBLE--to believe that no one witnessed this and/or can identify the truck!!
Which brings me to my next point--when i was younger and 1st staring out(in my horse and buggy!)there was a sign @a shipper home in Fl that said "This yard is a NO WAKE zone" I think most of you know exactly what that means! It was very appropriate there since it was right on the river. This saying should be etched in every drivers memories--and taken to mean--any terminal-warehouse-yard-t/s etc. I never go thru there much of walking speed&if I do pull thru an island-I pull up slowly-STOP-look as if i would if I just finished fueling! I know we have all seen drivers tear thru pkg lots like it was their own personal race tracks! But WE ALL must get together on this--don't do it yourself and don't be afraid to tell someone else to knock it off. Oh and for the many of you who might be reading this who haved #####ED @me--yup I am the guy who took 5 whole minutes to go from the fuel island to the driveway in the long stretched out burgandy/black Pete with the Fl Gators national Championship tag--that one of our comrades out there said on the radio the other nite in NC "Is that as fast as that fancy pete will go!" Well now you have your answer!!
    Just my $.02

    Quoted for truth.

This almost happened to me a few months back at the Dallas "Pee-lot". As I was walking in to use the restroom a car carrier came around the corner like he was on fire. Another truck probably saved my life (literally) when he gave a blast from his air horn to warn me. I turned around just in time to see that I was less than 2 feet from becoming the lead story on the 7 o'clock news. I came real close to snatching him out of the cab and putting both feet up his rear end, but I chose to chew him a new one instead.

People really need to slow the &$%! down in these parking lots. Anything over 15 mph is completely unnecessary and could cost a fellow driver his (or her) life. If you're feeling that insecure about your manhood then you should get some Viagra instead of risking a vehicular manslaughter charge.

Back in the first part of Jan. We had a driver crossing the road in Pikeville,Ky.

A car hit him and threw him into the other lane and he got hit and run over again.
The drivers did stop, but the driver lost his life.

All for going across the road and getting something to eat.

Sad thing was his pilot car driver saw the whole thing and there was nothing he could do to help him..

This is so sad. As dangerous as the roads are, you'd think there would be safety in a truck stop where we rest. There are too many hotdog drivers on the road and it needs to stop. I can almost guarantee you this was one of these drivers that flies through truck stops. He knew he hit her unless he was so engaged in a cell phone conversation. Then the spineless coward run instead of seeing if he could offer medical assistance? Sorry, but this crawls all over me. It's senseless and shouldn't of happened. This is about the 3rd identical incident we read in 2-3 months. It's a major problem. Drivers, please square off the parking lots when you walk or this can be you. Avoid crossing at blind corners. Limit your time in the travel lanes and make sure the driver has eye contact with you.

Thanks for showing concern celadontrucking. That means alot from a drivers end. It would mean alot to the family too if you can extend your sympathy to them. Many companies will brush a fatality off in a cold heartless manner.

It really bothers me that this kind of stuff happens. I almost got hit last year myself and I'm only here now because the Lord was watching over me. The driver that almost ran me over was backing up at the time. Also to many guys racing around trying to find a place to park, or late on the load trying to make up time don't help either.

I think a lot of these problem could be avoided if we got rid of the Just In Time delivery's. The whole go, go, go I can't be late attitude. Some schedules are just to tight at times. I think this may be part of the problem.

My condolences to you and her family.

Unfortunately, there is no one sector of drivers or any one or two companies playing Mario Andretti in parking lots. I see this at truck stops, customers and inside the Swift yards. I watched truck after truck go rip-snorting through the Lancaster yard at 25+ miles per hour when I was there. Maybe they think the wide open, long spaces between the rows of trailers is invitation to break their last record from the fuel island to the back wall. I just can't figure it out. Lancaster safety staff seem to have not a care in the world about it, either. Both local and OTR drivers do this.

Is it going to take a serious injury or a death to slow them down??

May the Grandmothers bring comfort to all of your driver's family and friends. May the Grandfathers find the one who hit her and make his or her life a living h***.

There is nothing I can add to what the drivers have expressed.

I don't even know how one could begin coping from this. It affects all of us. I'm sorry for your loss. Is Celadon setting up something for drivers or office staff to contribute something to send to the family?
