well i myself love driving and love being on the open road though there are things i don't like about trucking but hell thats trucking i love the freedom of it not being in the same spot i know most drivers think this is funny i like to see and visit different placesi like knowing i can go anywhere and get a job as well i like theres no one looking over my shoulder 8 hr's a day even though they probily do with the q comm and don't let us know being sarcastic about the q comm as a joke but they prob do. and i do agree with o.m.d about to much crap being handed out on a silver platter i have no problems with working and earning what i want but i don't think alot of these newbies really research the lifestyle wich they should do i have noticed most of em think it's glamoris there gonna become rich and famous and theres no more brother hood out there so if your broke down and or lets say having a stroke no ones gonna pull over and help you. try sleeping in a strange place and all of a sudden you hear gun shots and next thing you know theres a murder across the street i don't think id'e want to get out and take a leak after that never mind trying to take a leak in a bottle if you have to go that bad not being home every night not going home till you get a load going near your house being stuck out 4-6 weeks at a time. i had a friend tell tell me he said we don't want thses new drivers out here not because we don't want em to work but it's a f'ed up lifestyle.

23 years old, 3 years driving!!! You will NOT be telling any of us to get out. I give away more money each week, than you gross. The only thing you are going to get in your no paying job, is a place to live, IN your truck, comcheck, just to feed you. You will make $15K a year. Keep dem wheels turning, one screw up, You`ll never find another job driving. Let me see, you have 3 years driving, talk to you in 34 years from now, thats when you`ll catch up. I have NO ACCIDENTS, one ticket in 1985, and the one before that, 1974. Both were dismissed. See if you can do that in your next 34 years of driving. Have a GREAT DAY. LOL

I guess that's about the time I started riding along in carney trucks as a kid. Huge fun, every trip an adventure with twists and turns along the way, nothing much legal about any of it - run at night and dodge the scales, switch the license plates and once in a while "borrow" a battery to get that old nag moving.
I had some nostalgia for all of that, looked into the way it works in today's world and that was the end of that!
Good luck to all who are out there today; hope it works out all right! -
I worked in health care for 20+ years and heard all the same negative "this job sucks" talk. You're gonna get that in any occupation. But for every "this sucks" you hear, there are going to be far more sticking up for the occupation. I say the same thing to the bad mouthers in the trucking industry as I did in health care...If you hate it that much, find another job.
hobbypassion21, formertaxidriver and o.m.d. Thank this. -

You can't really compare OTR trucking to any other job.
Because it's not a job, it's a lifestyle (but it pays like a job).
About the only thing that comes close would be serving in the US military.
But there, you get a nice government pension after 20 years, housing paid for, rank, etc.
Trucking is just another blue-collar job done by Americans that is dying a slow death thanks to the government, trucking companies, and big corporations... -
