no it doesnt pay that well, but if i cared that much about money i wouldnt be driving trucks. i drive trucks because i love it.

and secondly i drive locally, i'm home every night. i work mon, tue, wed, thursday off, work fri sat. sunday off. i can change my days off during the week at anytime i want to except sunday thats always off. i make 31200 a year on salary, i work an average of 7 hours a day, my boss always takes care of me, i got real sick in november with mono, i was out almost 2 weeks straight i had only been there for 6 months (i've been here 8 months now) and he paid me for the time i was off. if customers give me a hard time he calls them and gets them off my back. we dont play the kiss ##### game here, with that being said i always take care of my customers that are good to me.

am i getting rich? nope. am i making a decent living wage? yup. am i doing pretty good for a 23 year old highschool drop out with a GED? yup. i own a house already. i'm happy where im at for now in life. i plan on going OTR and becoming an O/O in the future and hopefully down the road own a somewhat decent trucking company but who knows.

    Guess what?.they lied to you.
If they told you they are doing $100,000 a year and home everynight...they are probably still laughing at you for believing that 1.:biggrin_2559:

well not to get all oprah winfrey on ya but just a few years ago my goals in life were not to be doing the right thing. i assumed i'd wind up in jail or in a motorcycle gang and to be honest i was fine with that. i was 18, 19, my life up until that point had been nothing but hard times. i tell you this with a heavy heart, the things i've dealt with and faced in life have made me hard and its not something i say to brag about or be cool. its the only way i can deal with the ###### up things i have to live with.

i do want to make lots of money, i will some day, my house is a decent house, like i said i fully intend on going OTR, then when i am able to i will refinance my house, buy a truck straight up cash. if i were to NET 50k as an O/O i could pay my house off in 4 years. i only have a 100k loan. i dont care about living in a 500k house, living the stereo typical american dream. honestly my dream would be to have a trucking business's where i'm not running all the time and i can enjoy life i feel i deserve after all the #### i've been threw in life, and i'm using all those hard times as the drive to get over obstacles in my way. if i lose a job, no big deal, i've seen much worse, i'll find a new job. i am behind on bills need to catch up great ill get there no big deal. see what im sayin? i dont wanna make 31200 a year for the rest of my life, im just sayin i could never wear the uniforms and drive the bread trucks. and im not too much of a fan of the whole jump threw the hoops at the unions but thats my PERSONAL OPINION. not saying its not a great career for someone, just not my cup of tea and if im not happy with my job i lose my sanity and absolutely no pay check is worth me going crazy over

umm..how does making $25 and hour buy me a $500,000 dollar home and a $37,000 truck..

Avg payment on a 15year fixed at avg interest rates on $500,000 house would be roughly $4,000 a month and the payment on a $37,000 trck would $700-800 a month...excuse me but...even without taxes..social security or food....that still adds up to more than your Gross pay?

    Please explain?

Trckdrvr, o.k , here`s one you probably wont believe either, but that doesnt matter. A friend of mine works for a Insurance Company, he is a Fire Investigator, Are you ready, - $1 dollar a mile, plus an $70K yearly salary. Just know this will piss ya off. Go ahaed, Tell everyone thats a lie. Who cares. You`ll never make anywhere near the taxes they take out of him. LOL :biggrin_2551::biggrin_25516::biggrin_2559:

my uncle is a master plumber of 25 years and for a while he worked doing outside sales. he got something like 25 cents a mile on top of 100k guaranteed a year no matter what he sold. his final year they raised him to 120k. he's back to doing plumbing for himself now though. i swear they cant take the blood of us blue collar guys, we just love working and love what we do and even though the dollar might call our name into a slightly different field it seems they always get pulled back into where they started their passion. im ok with that!! its happened to me, i started driving at a lumber yard, figured when the economy tanked i would go back to doing carpentry and screw driving, somehow i wound up back in the drivers seat and this time i'm not leaving!!

Well young man, If I was your uncle I would constantly ask you to work with me. Before you know it I would be sending you out on jobs, by yourself, and again, before you know it, you opened your own shop. Your still young, go with your dreams. I started this post to encourage young drivers to go get a job that can set you for life. I hope you do well in your future, you sound like you will make the right decisions, but just do me one favor, talk to your uncle, and your dad, to get there support. Thanks o.m.d. I look forward to hearing you post.
