This has to be one of the most jacked up threads on here!!!!

Now i'm trying to write this with out upsetting to many people. if i do i'm sorry::

come one people talking about the dislike a trucking company. because they are over weight and risk of health issue's!
They are protecting you and other people by not hiring you. it's a way of saying get your weight under control. your a risk to yourself and all other driver's on the road.

example--->> Your driving that prime truck have a heart attack due to your weight crash into my x wife and my 3 children now prime has a law suit and i'm suing you as well cause your not fit to drive that truck.

If you can't pass a bmi risk assesment. your out of shape and overweight! it's time to start eating right and start a exercise program. failing a bmi risk assesment could possibly saved her life she should go to the doctor. and get a full check up.

Its a touchy thing really, in my opinion. I mean, I myself am 5'7'' and about 270#. Now, im not skinny but I am not fat. I am not an athlete but im not lazy either. Im a hard worker and am not huffing and puffing when I walk up the stairs, run through a parking lot, tarp a load, or whatever else. I think the BMI thing is a little off. I think they need to do more than look at a height to weight ratio to determine BMI. Im sure I would look like hell if I got down to 180, which is still on the high side of where I should be at.

I wonder if skinny people get discriminated at Prime?

Whoa, that is not good, I am 6'3"s tall and only weigh about 154 pounds. Did not know you could get denied for being slender or not having enough fat. That is crazy. I have been into weight lifting for the last 12 years, so I would think I would not have a problems doing stretches and lifting weights. I have been interested in JBS ever since I started reading the thread by DocHoliday on here.

I agree -- fat is unhealthy and Prime has the right to set their standard wherever they choose. With the logic above, though, long-term smokers also carry a higher risk of heart disease. Do we ban those from trucking, too?

What I want to know is, whatever happened to "ability to do the job"?

I got denied by a Prime recruiter because I'm 6'2" and approx. 240"lbs. Recruiter said I'd fail my BMI. Personally, I call horsesh*t on this, since my Army wieght (best condition I've ever been in) was 265lbs.! And I've never had trouble sleeping solidly throughout my sleep period, either in the truck or at home! I do think this BMI crap is another way of discriminating against heavier people. Especially now that the gooberment is all about controlling how people eat since all this "America is the world's fattest nation" crap came about! Let people be people, for the sake of the gods! I'll admit that I'm not as fit as I'd like to be, but that's my fault and my problem! And my physical condition has never stopped me from keeping right up with all the other drivers out there, and passing quite a few. Just my .02!

    Volvo92906 Thanks this.

ok brsims in those test they have you lift weights, kneel, runn in place ect all while having this thing around you. your heart rate can't get over a certain point. it's not only about the sleep part of it.it's about doing physical things also and heart rate stay with the guidlines of your height/weight.

Do I have a lawsuit when your three kids are mouthing off in the backseat and your ex wife drifts into my lane while she's turned around giving a "five across the eyes" times 3 and causes an accident.

Oh they still will try and make it my fault.

Give it up on the what ifs

DOT sets the minimum standards for the physical... Any company has the right to set more stringent standards if they choose. It's their loss if they lose a potentially excellent driver to their higher standards. Its all about supply and demand.

There must have been a supply problem as the program has changed a little in the last few months.

As I see it, Prime at first turned away all the high BMI prospects... Seems that they are taking them now and putting them thru the sleep test and CPap machine program (if warranted) that they offered only to current employees in the beginning.

Yeah they should definitely ban smokers from trucking as well as over weight people. Then next time I get a company truck it does not smell like a ashtray. I do believe there should better access to treadmills at truck stops or company terminals. Staying fit is too hard for most people. I love running on a treadmill. But most people despise it. Truck stops and Terminals should be required to have some sort of exercise equipment at their facilities.
