If you want a good tongue lashing, just have the audacity to say something to them about their nasty habit.

My best guess, that your trailer has not completed the turn by the time your turn signal would shut off automatically. I.E., on a right turn, you crank hard to the right, and your first 1/4 turn to the left would shut off the blinker, but your trailer is still around the corner.

Maybe thats not the right answer, but the best one I can think of.

When a big truck messes with me, I'll do what is necessary to let him/her by me. If that means switching lanes or even safely getting off the road momentarily, I won't argue. It's not that I'm afraid of trucks and truckers. In fact, I'm usually very comfortable around them when I'm on the road. We respect each other's space.

But with one tail-gating me? The trucker may be in the wrong if I'm rear-ended, but I'm the one who's gonna get hurt.

Right and wrong isn't the issue at that moment. Nor do I get indignant enough to hold my ground. I'm more concerned about self-preservation.

As the distance between two vehicles diminishes, so does the potential speed differential. Thus the potential for damage decreases with the speed difference that is what causes impact damage.

So all that "you're going to kill someone" crap is BS.

From my drivers seat it is the car's fault most of the time. PUT DOWN THE CELL PHONE AND DRIVE! Watch the traffic in front of you, not me in your mirror. Leave enough distance in front of you so that you don't have to panic when the nose picker in front of you taps his brakes. SHIFT OUT OF OVERDRIVE when not traveling at highway speed or going down hill in traffic, save your brakes and fuel.

Obey the slower vehicles must travel in the right lanes law!!!!!!!
That does not mean you can do the speed limit in the fast lane. If you're not doing +5 MOVE THE HECK TO THE RIGHT!!! There is being right (obeying the speed limit to the letter of the law) and being DEAD RIGHT. Travel with the flow of traffic, if you can't maintain that speed YOU ARE THE SAFETY ISSUE!!!!!!! Move to the right or get off the road..... Go with the flow douche bag. A trucker can see 20 cars ahead of you and he will base his speed on that, not watch your rear bumper playing follow the leader (inchworm).

And that space I leave in front of me is not for you to change lanes into, it is my buffer zone that I use to average my speed, instead of having to do the inchworm stop and go (with 80K+ GVW). Only idiots haul ##### to close the gap in front of them only to slam on the brakes when the guy in front of them stops. And then they just sit there picking their noses (talking on cell phone) when the guy in front of them moves and make me stop as I am timing my speed to the average speed of the lane.

There is a rant with some facts and real world data, instead or crying like a sissy when a truck tries to push you up to the flow of traffic speed. GET OUT OF THE WAY! YOU are impeding the natural flow of traffic.

I wish more people thought that way. When someone allows a 40 ton truck, or any vehicle for that matter, to ride 10 feet behind him, it makes him ever bit as dumb as the other guy. Slow down, speed up, move over, or get off. Those are all things you can do to avoid being run the hell over. Don't just set there, white-knuckling down the road like a fool, while someone is fixing to wreck you. The idea is to stay alive.

lol, I think I asked before if that may actually be some peoples excuse for following so close. It also makes it more likely you will actually have an impact. Not just an impact but one at a greater speed which may cause the one in front to run into someone infront of them or to veer into another lane etc. That's just silly.

    Wow...you really believe that?
The whole idea is to avoid an accident, not minimize carnal damage.

What about trajectory after the initial impact?

Tell your theory to the kids that caught the shoulder and over corrected in the lane next to me a few years back. The impact was little more then a thud at matched speed, but from there they slid off the bumper, bounced off the guard rail and went under the trailer. You don't even want to know the things that are gonna go through your head as you anticipate what carnage you're gonna find under that trailer.
Would be willing to bet most cowboys wouldn't have the stomach to make that walk.

Ever see a car run out of gas going down the road? Like hit'n the brakes with no warning at all.

I agree with all the BS of inconsiderate drivers in the way, but pushing the bumper in front of you isn't gonna move the half dozen cars in front of him move any faster and when things go wrong, it's a game you can't afford to play.
