I recently downloaded this app to my droid. There are some cons and many pros to it..

    1. IT takes a lot of space and initially ran slow. Many times it lagged to a point it looked like it crashed. Moving the app to my SD card solved that issue.

Like the GPS device running the same software it does allow me to specify my truck information.

Major Pro.. the guidance has been spot on so far.
The apps ability to tell me about various points of interest along my route (truck stops, rest areas, weigh stations) has been invaluable and it is configurable too.

I accidentally missed a turn and it directed me back in a path safe for my truck. It didn't try to send me down a road for cars.

It will tell you about Truck Stops along your path, but it doesn't say which truck stop it is. It would be nice if it did.

It will tell you about rest stops on the other side of the road. It may be the way I have it configured, but it really should be based on direction of travel.

It will save destinations. A good thing if you keep going to a spot from various locations.

it does restart you last route if the phone should crash or have the battery drained.

I will attempt to post more as I get used to this thing.. So far it is far better then Google's Navigation app.

Hey thanks for the review! I always wondered if there was a truck app for the droid. I'm downloading it as we speak... I got the North America one for $20. Sounds like a good deal.

Last week I went from Omaha, Ne to Sabetha, KS. My gps signal was non-existent for most of the trip. Have you had problems with the GPS signal getting lost?

I have been using the "Live 8" for Android. With the live search, it tells you what the names of the truck stops are. It's the car version, so I don't trust it completely.

The truck one is $149.99. Sounds like your running the one I am. As for the GPS, that happens sometimes. Restarting the phone will usually fix it. I'm running the Droid1, soon to upgrade to the Thunderbold (someday ).

Please keep posting about this app. I'm in the market for a truck gps and I'm curious to see if this app is working for you.

I'm wondering if having the truck gps as part of your phone/mp3 player/calculator/etc makes it harder to use.

I'm a student and am looking for a gps unit. I recently took a car road-trip from Florida to Kentucky and used the Google Navigation app. Having to take my phone out of the car each time I stopped, then re-starting the trip, was kind of a pain.

Also, my phone frequently lost the gps signal. Do you know if that happens with gps dedicated units?

    ###### now I see the truck one. Oh well, if this one works well, I'll buy the truck one. $150 is still a lot cheaper than the $500 stand alones that I was looking at. I tried restarting my phone several times and it took a while to work. Now it works fine. *shrugs*

Also I found a demo on youtube.

I wonder if there's a way to teather it to your computer, and use a laptop as a screen...

You could buy the laptop version and seperate gps receiver to plug into the laptop, here is the link to their site for the different download options, http://www.alk.com/pro/store/

Would this work for using the laptop? It can have an add-on GPS antenna. Little more expensive, but the plus would be using your laptop screen instead of the phone screen.

Now I'm confused. I was doing a lot of research, and the 8 got a lot of rave reviews.

    http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/323-review-alk-copilot

On one site it said to get a newer version, and that 8 was obsolete. I then looked at the 11, and it got nothing but poor reviews.

    http://www.amazon.com/CoPilot-Live-...8DKM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1298251199&sr=8-1

I can't find it anymore, but another review had two reviews of the 11, and only gave it an average of one star. Why would a newer version of the program be more buggy? What am I missing?

They seem to do a wierd thing and count down their versions. V11 was their first released in '07(It did have terrible reviews) and V9 was their last version and V8 is the current version. If V8 is obsolete someone forgot to inform the manufaturer since that is the only version they offer on their website, http://www.alk.com/copilot/
