It WAS so DARN FUNNY! Sometimes cops get a swelled head and think they are ABOVE the law. I saw a thing in the local paper about this LOCAL sheriff deputy that got stopped near Salisbury, NC by a black & grey and got a ticket for speeding. She tried to use "professional courtesy" to get the trooper not to give her a ticket. The judge scolded her really soundly and told her that she is SUBJECT to the law just like anybody else, and that her conduct was shameful. Now if she had been in the local area, in the performance of her duty, or in pursuit, the trooper himself said he likely wouldn't have bothered her. But she was 65 miles AWAY from her county in a sheriff's cruiser, SPEEDING over 80 MPH (because she thought she was exempt from the law) She was not any better than anybody else to break the law she was sworn to uphold, no.....she should be held more accountable than the average motorist. The judge really tore her a new one over it, in court, in front of everybody!:biggrin_2559:

She, too, was "in a heap of trouble, boys"!!!!!!! Earned her a suspension from the sheriff department and a black mark on her record.

So, if you SEE a cop speeding for no apparent reason, turn him IN to the shift captain! It just may get him in trouble if it turns out that he's just "cruising" off his beat. Serves 'em right!!!! They ain't no better to speed than YOU or ME!!!!!

Yes even cops have to obay the law ... I AM NOT a certified officer but as a enployee of the Sheriff office we are bound to the same standards as they are .... in short we have to follow any laws that apply to us.

Some cops are on a power trip but not many ....

The last time I got stopped a young cop pulled me over for a INVALID PLATE ... :biggrin_2556: Yep it seems he did not know a HAM RADIO plate exsisted.

He started with " Where did you buy that plate some gift shop ? " Then he took my license and insurance card and called dispach ....... within 5 sec the girl said it IS VALID and then asked what was the problem ?

He came back gave me the paperwork and said " Drive safe " He was very lucky that i was not someone high up ...... his luck will run out someday ...

When I bought my ham plates last year, the gal in our county license office said it has been over 20 years since anyone has ordered a plate like mine LOL

I've got Masonic plates on mine. Well, just the rear; no front plate required here, so I've got a simple square-and-compass emblem on the front. I already get a lot of looks from the locals cuz I don't look or talk like most of them -- "that great tall Yankee hippie feller" -- and the plates get some weird looks, too. I don't know if they think I'm the Klan, or they're the Klan and don't trust anyone else.
And with all the antennas, the real idiots must think I'm like the world's stupidest narc.
The only thing missing is a "La Cucaracha" horn and nipple tassles for when I get out of the car. <sigh>

It's THESE kinds that I will complain on to their supervisors in a skinny minute!!!! They are the power trippers and swell heads, and don't need to be cops. This one was being a smart###.

Gadfly I am actually still considered a resident of Marion Co Indiana. Though I haven't actually lived there in several years due to being in the military. But the last I was there, they actually permit the sheriffs deputies to use their patrol cars as everyday transportation. Meaning you'll see one drive to a golf course and the not in uniform cops will get out and pull out a bag of golf clubs and tee off. The sheriff's cars last I saw were all a 2 tone brown.

Although if it were a Charger, I believe this is how they look...

I don't know if there's any limitation on where they are allowed to drive their cars to...so perhaps mr. cop was on vacation and being bossy. Your big aerials gave it away.

They BOTH were in uniform, were on Interstate 40 between Hickory, NC and Statesville, NC. Speeding WELL over the limit! Crown Vic similiar to the one shown. Now just WHY would they be IN North Carolina to begin with? And, as such, they HAVE no authority to regulate ANYTHING here. They could pull their light all they want to, and I could just shoot 'em the bird and keep going.

Knowing that Indiana, Kentucky and some others are completely anal about radios in cars, I was HOPING they would try something since NC has NO scanner restrictions other than the use of a scanner to facilitate a crime. They just pulled up short and began to "pace" me in the left lane as if to intimidate me or something. (Which it didn't) I KNOW my position with regard to scanners and radios in cars here in NC, so I just looked at 'em and gave them this huge sh##-eatin' grin, holding up my mike for them to see it really well! Failing to "scare" me, they showered down on the cruiser and sped away. It was 2-4 minutes up the road when I began to see blue lights far in the distance. When I caught up, ole "Black 'n Grey (NCHP) had 'em pulled over! I don't think "professional courtesy" was going to work that time cuz ole "smokey" complete with his "bear" hat, had his ticket clipboard in hand and was showing Mr "Dep'ty Dawg" to his Chevrolet!!!!!!!:biggrin_2553:

    Smart-aleck cops deserve their comeuppance!!!!!!!!!

Cops go all over the place transporting prisoners, going to training/seminars, and doing security for events. It's not all that uncommon to see an out of state LEO, and they occasionally talk on the CB-I've found that the out of jurisdiction ones are much more likely to talk than the ones that're are on duty.
