Good question....I couldn't begin to say why a sheriff's deputy (or even the sheriff himself) would still be in uniform in another state....maybe he was thinking he was Buford T. Justice chasing down the Bandit from Indianapolis to Wilmington NC.

"Put th' evidence in th' cah Junior! Ah give me a diablo sandwich an ah Dr. Peppa n' make it quick I'm in a god**** hurry! That ######## Bandit!"

That's true. I see 'em all the time, and an occasional one from a neighboring state. But it was unusual to see an Indiana deputy (2) so far from home. That's over 600 miles out of jurisdiction. This was in 1999, btw, not a recent incident. I wouldn'tna give 'em much thought except for them giving me the evil eye as if they wanted to stop me so baaaaaaaaad!:yes2557: The only reason would've been the radios cuz I wasn't speeding. THEY were the ones doing the speeding an' got nailed for it---cop or NO cop. I ENJOYED it!!!!!!!:yes2557::biggrin_2559:

Oh yeah, still a great story. The only encounter I've had with a LEO in Indiana (and I've done a lot of driving there, probably 40-50k miles) was getting passed by a DOT cop on a two lane when the speed limit dropped from 55 to 50. I slowed down to about 55, I guess he didn't want to-scared me to death. It does throw you for a loop to see the out of state ones, I saw a Vermont State Trooper on I-59 in Mississippi after Katrina, I really thought I'd lost my mind for a minute!

Now come to think of it, I DID see a lot of unusual vehicles traveling on I-40 and I-85 after Katrina. That included a bunch of different out-of-state cops. But that didn't faze me at all: I knew it was prolly due the storm. But THAT time, in '99, it was really odd to see uniformed cops 600 miles from home. I wonder how they 'splained the ticket?:biggrin_25523:

Hmmmm, now THAT ain't cricket! They were begging for help and bite the hands that are "feeding" (helping) them? That ain't right!

BTW, we've had hurricanes up HERE (200 hundred miles INLAND) and I've seen Florida Power & Light up here repairing poles, etc. Glad to SEE 'em!

These yahoo's didn't get it and our sheriff was not happy. I did the radios for our officers one problem was we had was their radios would not talk to ours they had no simplex we did convenional radios do not default like trunking does when the repeaters went they had bricks so they used HAMS to bridge that gap ....

It doesn't help that ALL the repeaters were down. TRS radios do have a default fall back-but when everything goes poof-ah well. Remeber that every freq in a trs requires a repeater-and that is for every tower site-regardless if it's a simulcast, multicast etc. All of that requires power. Again-no power-poof-no comms.

And then there is the question of how many towers were still actually standing........
