experienced driver wants to tell newer drivers some things

(1) : With the type of steering wheel I had in the truck, I got a much better grip with the palm of my hand slipping.
(2) : With the type of steering wheel I had in the truck, my palms were getting slippery & shiny, almost like I was putting shin cream on my hands, but dry.
(3) : When backing into a dock with the type of truck I had it was better to open the door & lean out & look back to my spot & use the palm of my hand to turn the wheel while doing this.
Why does anybody care enough about these gloves to keep bringing them up all the time in all sorts of posts & threads on here, and other forums? To me they are a tool to use just like work gloves or a hammer or even sunglasses for that matter.
And no I don't have a chain drive wallet. But even these have a reason to be used, but I'll bet allot of people on don't know what that reason is.

Newbies often come out of school with stars and dollar signs in their eyes until something happens to wake them up to reality - hopefully within a few weeks of their company training! This is natural. No, they shouldn't get a new truck, but not a junker either - because they don't have the experience to either fix the many problems or even describe them to maintenance when they call from the road. "What's a turbo look like?" lol Yes, they should be taught to shift. Interesting that the original post said to take everything with not just a grain of salt, but a BOX... and that would include his own post! Hey, if it doesn't apply to you, ignore it... and if it does, think about it. I have only been out here eight years and my company thinks it odd that I don't want to be a trainer. I have too much still to learn! And if I come across a veteran with more experience than myself, I want to milk his/her brain!

Us Newbies, get used to being lumped into the newbie thing when trying to get into a tight spot, (all you CB jerks that said I couldn't get it in). I'm guessing after I got it in, and invited you to meet me, you must have gotten sleepy. Fat, Lazy, or whatever.. I got out 5 times.. you saw me you CB jerk. Indy pilot You saw me and knew you had no chance of kicking my ###. Took me a bit, my cb was on to hear if I was gonna hit something.. CB guys are BIG on the mike. Not when they see the guy they have to confront! I'm a newbie

Be prepared for this also if you hit the Pilot off 81 in virginia--they are real bad at that one. I got to where when i Pulled in there--i just shut off the Cb..Makes it much more peacefulronin Thanks this. -
I have alwaysed been blessed and had the privlage of driving new if not newer trucks. I think alot may have to do with the type of person you are and how you carry yourself. I have a spotless driving record and befor I even consider working for a company I look at their equipment first. I am extremly picky about what I drive and how its taken care of as well. Maint is a big priority to me. I learned alot from operating wreckers and them Interstates can be lonely at night in the cold. Another thing I will do is let the boss or owner look at my personal vehicle and show them how its taken care of and that how I exspect the truck to be kept. We have 7 trucks we use for out little rout we do. 6 bought new just for this and 1 thats 2 years old. I drive the old one because it has been kept up and taken car of and I like having 2 fuel tanks, heated mirrors and power windows. But it is the old truck and I took it by choice. I share it with 4 other drivers and I laid the law out with them and yes they are all much older them me but we have a great understanding. I respect them and they respect me. They keep it clean and pick up after themselves. It didn't start out that way but I sat down and talked with them and we decided that what I was asking wasn't too much to ask for. Where I work we the drivers take care of each other. We have 24 drivers and 4 shifts the trucks run 24 hours a day. As long as there not in the shop but thats another story and why we are getting Prostars in a week.
You have to respect all the drivers on the road old or young. In the end thats really all you have to help you out. I know there are some onry old farts out there and some irogant new drivers. I consider may self new but confident. Driving these trucks is not rocket science. Its mostly comon sense and alot of responsabuility. but we as drivers need to police ourselves and take care of each other. One day you will need help from that driver thats an ### and vice versa. -
well said however after 5 years over the road we as driver learn something new everyday even from some of the newbies.......... you know for my first couple of years I could never understand why drivers with several years of experience told me I had alot to learn but they were the ones with violations not me LOL
NEWBIES BEST TIP IS TAKE CARE OF YOUR LICENSE AND THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU
