First mountain grade, Siskiyous I-5 Oregon/California.
Scariest, UT-143 going up from Parowan and over to Panguitch on that 13% climb with the 15mph S-curve and the 1,000 ft drop on the right side. Beautiful area and I'm glad I had the opportunity to see it, but I can't think of any good reason for me to take a truck up there again. Ever.
I understand our fellow member, BigDon used to go up and down that grade on a fairly regular basis. He has my utmost respect. -
Wow walstib over 1000 posts since Sep 2010 with all those posts i'm wondering how you still have time to drive?

Cut my teeth drivin' truck & trailer bullwagon out west. Lots of ranch moves out of the hills (logging roads) which was a real treat in 13'6" outfit. Don't have any idea what the official % was but on more than one occasion my seat ended up with little biscuits bitten out of the upholstery!!
Lots of Donner, White bird (US95),CA32 (backside of the Sierras),Grapevine, Cabbage, I-70 wb from the tunnel, snowin' like a big dog, etc, etc.
Always remember, it's just a hill, all you have to do is use your head.gunner2trucker and trucker_101 Thank this. -
The craziest mountain road I have been on so far is US219 from PA to WV. I want to go back there with the motorcycle some day!
I have driven on steeper mountain roads.... The main challenges on US219 are the narrow lanes combined with steep grades and tight corners. -
um, if you went over Black Bear, it wasn't in a semi, Black Bear Pass in Colorado is 4wd only. You might be thinking Lizard Head, Norwood Hills or Lawson -
My first time over Wolf Creek was in the middle of winter, in a storm, at 3am, it was also my first time chaining up without help. Since then, I've been over it probably two dozen times without a problem, twice this winter I've ran it barefoot WB in a heavy snow because CDOT wasn't smart enough to put the chain law in place.
Now, when we want to seperate the men from the boys (and not those in the catholic church) and the truckers from the steering wheel holders, we prefer Monarch Pass loaded WB in the winter, Red Mountain any time of year with a loaded 53' trailer and the tandems slid half way back, or Douglass Pass.
For the record, SWIFT lost one WB Monarch about 7 yrs ago in the middle of summer. Woman driving, her boyfriend/co-driver in the sleeper, she lost it and went over the side.
Having cut my teeth on all these lovely passes, my one trip over Mont Eagle didn't impress me.
Elk Mtn. can be scary when it's windy out, especially at night. Parley's is amusing, especially since the runaway truck ramps are on the wrong lane. Real fun can be had WB I-80 over the Summit, once a month someone lays it over near the bottom on the twisties. -
Striker.
Just because somebody hasn't been routed over the passes you mention does not mean they are less a driver. In fact, I may have been over any or all of them and have no idea. I don't know all the "cool" local names of places. I know them by highway number.
If that Monarch Pass you speak of is in Idaho on US 12, Swift is not the only company to lose trucks and people into the river. Please reference the highway numbers and general locations of these places and desist with the phallus length competition with the included deridements. 'Preciate it!trucker_101 Thanks this. -
Monarch is Route 50 in Colorado and it is a Real #####. Try doing it with no Jakes at all.
Injun Thanks this. -
Thank you. Yes, I have been on that one. With a load of potatoes in a reefer.
