Is mercedes a good engine compare to detroit or caterpilar?

usually it is best to own any machine from the country from where you are and not foreign( i mean from other continent)product

mb is traditional manufacturer they did not make any technical progress in years now om501/2 and all other mb engines are outdated comparing to competition

euro 6/epa2012 can be can be achieved for several years at all manufactures but they did not have market for it

that is really irresponsible from such big company usually it is normal that you can get parts anywhere in the world within 24 hours

 

That's why in Russia the best truck is Century class with pre emission Series 60 ore N14, and Eaton 10 st tranny. W/o autoshift. With drum brakes, no EBS, ABS only.

In Ukraine the best trucks are early Man F2000 ore Actros before MP-II.

 

i also consider f2000 as pretty good truck it is not best quality it is MAN but there is no un-planed brakedowns

they have problems with rust around air condition intake ( under the mask) with side compartment for storage , inside door catch can be break easlly if it is nos lubricated also there are some problems with sponge around gear-knob also there are some water leak on junction between plastic and steel part of roadhouse cab

also there is a problem with ALC , cab suspension

range group on ZF gearbox can make often problems also for tipper trucks there are problems with weak diff and drive shaft, also disc "pliers" on tippers front axle ( read drum brake) is pretty bad solution

and in my opinion bigest problem is fuel injection pump

but all round it is best MAN ever

i consider first generation of actros pretty bad truck especially before 2000y

thats realy interesting,cause century class togeather with cummapart is not higly ranked by NA truckers....
concerning mercedes engines ,om475/460(mbe4000) is an 1970 design developed togeather by m.a.n and fited with PDL system made by bosch,anyway its more advanced than an cummins n14 which has its roots in 50's
for a fleet company pre egr 12,7 detroit is the best,and for a owner operator is 6nz cat c15

Some speleng issues .

It is really funny for me to read accident police reports, driver's description how did it happen. There are some drivers from from distant vilages and they cant write correctly. They use to write like they hear and it is so funny when they use cyrilic letters in German ore English reports, they mix languages, especially they mix Russian and Ukrainian, OMG! we need someone to read encripted reports.

 

We work in different busines. I work on highway, you work on terrain. And logging business is really deiificult. I see how our loggers and coal dump trucks work... they "kill" new truck in a year, rebuild and kill one more time, but they get enought profit to destroy vehicles.

There are places where former military 6x6 trucktors survive only!

Last year I changed ECM on onl freightliner twice becouse this truck crosses small creak twice every day and I see water inside ECM (DEEC-IV), corroded flash, eprom and ROM terminals.

There is DAF 95 with PLD engine in my workshop now. They towed overladen dump trailer and got DS twisted!!!!

 

Grain haulers are truck killers too! they use old 20' and 40' containers, cut top and fill them with grain. There are tipping mashines in ports they remove contaner from frame and flip it in to the ship! How much grain in full 40' container? and what? Bent frames, broken springs, and bad UJs are common things. They kill trucks, repare and kill againe till it is possible!
