i havnt had a huge problem in this industry thank god. even all the mexican truckers i have met speak english.
my old old job was another story. its sad how many people do not know a single gd word of english and live here.
anyway you know what annoys me? when its 70 and beautiful and i got my windows down enjoying it and someone feels the need to pull up and blast these jackhammer apu's we have hahahaha. man other drivers must hate us! i know mine is loud i dont use it unless i really have to hahaAmerican-Trucker Thanks this. -
In Quebec, Canada their official language is French. If you think that they should have to learn English for a visitor then why shouldn't you have to learn Spanish or French to speak to them if they come here??
I had a load that went to Quebec and I felt it was more respectful to learn basic French because I had to call them for an appointment. I learned enough to tell them I didn't speak French and if I could speak with someone who spoke English.
English is obviously the most spoken language, but you shouldn't. "Expect" others to speak it if their official language is something else.
With tha all being said, the rest of Canada has English as their official Language. -
you just answered your own question...lol English is a universal language!
And to address the other part, when WE visit another country we do it legally then LEAVE. The mexicans ILLEGALLy come here then ILLEGALLY stay here. And dont speak a word of english, no way im learning another countrys language to live in my own country....
And canadians dont have to buy u.s product they are free to make all there own stuff...thats like saying when we deliver and the guys in the warehouse cant speak english, we should learn mexican.....

You're missing the point. I completely agree about speaking English in OUR country. Especially if you are going to live here, you should learn the language. I'm saying that you shouldn't expect someone to speak English in a country that English isn't the official language
-
Once you travel to other countries, you get a better feel for this situation...I've traveled all over Europe and if I didn't have my little book of common phrases, I would have got lost, paid too much, missed my train, ordered the wrong food and possibly insulted someone...When in Rome..........................

I've been to other countries, I speak English and the American Dollar! And when I choose to venture outside of the states I choose to go to places that speak english, because there is nothing more anoying then not being able to communicate with someone. Language or ignorance barrior it dont matter lol

I found this to be exciting and very challenging!...Part of what made it fun to travel! -
Sorry, gents. More people speak Mandarin (Chinese) than English... and more speak Spanish (all versions) than English as well. [see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers].
So if you really want to complain, learn Mandarin (a very difficult language) and Spanish (Castillian) first, then complain.
I love learning languages and plan to pick up a bit more Spanish and French to help me out on the road. Then I might work on other languages.
