That I cannot comment on. That all falls under customer support. I most certainly can forward any comments to them.
Thanks,
Mark

The maps are in regions. You cannot correct one city in map without issuing the region again, and regions are tied to other regions... That is what the DCA files are. They are not state or city.

As far as returned units, that is a customer support function. I work in R&D and cannot give policy to another department. Your comments in your E-Mails were forwarded up to my boss and he takes things personally that affects customer satisfaction.
Thanks,

Another thing, I don't believe that you can't modify the existing maps. A lot of this stuff is not regarding moving the physical locations of roads. It's changing the flags set on existing roads in the database where they are marked wrong. That should not require a full update from Navtech. -
I'd like to give my two cents:
Everyone needs to remember that even Verizon Wireless sends reconditioned cell phones back to there costumers.
I bought a $300 cell phone from Verizon, it broke, I sent it back under warranty, they sent me a refurbished cell phone. It's just the nature of the business.
I bought a brand new 2002 Toyota camry that cost me $29,990 before taxes and finance fees. For some odd reason, the alternator took a crap. It was covered under the 36 month / 36,000 mile Toyota bumper to bumper warranty. Toyota told me straight out, they weren't paying for a brand new alternator and that they would put a Toyota remanufactured alternator in my car.
Don't get me wrong, if I bought something, and I don't care if I only paid $50.00 for the thing, if it broke while under warranty, I would be expecting my same one back or a brand new one. I don't know what the rule of thumb is for sending a brand new unit back to a customer, but I would like to think that a manufacture would back there warranty for the fist 30, 60 or 90 days with a brand new unit or send the same one back that was shipped to them and not send back a reconditioned or remanufactured one. I would except a recon, reman back, if it broke between 90 days and the 1 year warranty mark.
Well that's my two cents that just turned into a quarters worth,,, -
NavTeq owns the main core mapping database. We cannot change, but we do send in corrections. I cannot speak for other companies, but Rand takes the time when an update is send us to go over all the corrections and verify they are in place. This takes time. This shows Rand's cares that you do get valid correct information.
It is not a full update, but the way the database is tied to other regions only a full update can be given. This does not mean everything was changed, but the updates are much easier given as a full update versus trying to send out a part of a DCA file. Most DCA files are about 100mb.

My update that I emailed Rand.
Well after a couple weeks of using my 2nd replacement -used -older- unit you guys sent me, I thought I would give you an update.
this unit is off a half mile--------- when I am sitting at an intersection or off ramp and it is telling me -- " in a 1/2 mile turn right or left or stay right or left etc , when I am sitting at the actual intersection or going past the interchange ! kinda takes the helpfulness out of it...
I will go past a freeway interchange and it will say "in a half mile stay to the left on the I-15 " problem is the I-15 interchange will be behind me a 1/4 or 1/2 mile ??? my last trip yesterday I had to deliver on Tropicanna blvd in Las Vegas and while I am sitting at the stop light of Tropicana and Jones my Gps tells me to left turn in a half mile on Tropicana Blvd. But I am at the stop light of Tropicana in the left turn lane? what the H*** ?? good thing my Iphone GPS is reliable.
another thing it does is when i am at a certain location and I push the "save location" button it wont save the location -- it just freezes up. the only way I can get out of it is to push the back button. Then I havbe to do it again to try and save it.
Another thing it does which isnt that bad but still annoying is::: when I have it on and its tracking my run I will look down at it and it has reverted back to the "main screen" ???? then I have to push the "go to map" button and then it returns to the map ---then 15 or 20 minutes later the map dissappears again and it goes back to the "main screen"?
Not sure why this unit was originally returned but my guess is that it was for one or more of the above problems.
Since this is the second "previously owned unit that had problems that someone else sent back" unit ( to replace my NEW defective unit) you guys have sent me I dont know if I should be really pissed off, demand a "NEW" unit , demand another USED unit, demand a refund ---OR simply forget about it and realize that no matter what unit Rand Mcnally sends me back it will still have some sort of problem, defect, or inaccuracy. WHY ?? because it was someone elses unit that failed and Rand that just boxes up and resends to someone else to replace their broken unit. ! -
thanks,
Mark -
