I'm Not the trucker in the family...my son is and I just got off the phone with him...Needless to say he feels like running over his GPS unit and then throwing it about as far as he can...

Anyway... he has TWO World Nav units in his truck..one to back up the other "just in case"... Today one lead him down that old slippery road to hell ... and he had to back up for a mile just to be able to turn his rig around....hooked up the 2nd one and it too wanted him to take the same road to hell....

He has had both for 4-5 years and knows how to use the darn things BUT has been "complaining" about them to me for the last few months...

My QUESTION is.... Which GPS systems FOR OTR 53 foot long TRUCKS to you guys PREFER...

Cobra Garmin Rand ??? or who... Needless to say World Nav ain't in the running as far as he is concerned...

I use and prefer the Rand McNally TND.
I like the 7" better than the 5", altho both are identical in operations and features.
The 7" has a larger display and the finer type is easier to read with my older eyes. The audio in the 7" is better as well.
Rand has been very aggressive in updating the system, adding features and improving the unit. There are over 100 beta testers out there that are OTR drivers, feeding daily imput back to RM, so those frustrating little things are constantly being improved or fixed.
The updates are free. You don't have to have a 'subscription' or even register yourself if you don't want.
And no...I don't work for Rand. I am an OTR driver that loves it's operation.

Thank you Gentleman.... I printed out the link provided by cc1942...and e-mailed it to my son...

I'm sure a lot of you guys and gals have been frustrated at one time or the other when your GPS send you down the road to hell
and you had to back up for a mile... Hopefully when he calls me this morning he will be in a "little" better mood...

    Thanks...

A trucker should not rely on a GPS solely. Much less if it is not a GPS for trucks. Garmin is not for trucks. Whatever GPS one may have, call the customers (shippers/ receivers) and get directions. Then, compare that to what GPS tells. But follow customers' directions. If customers are not available, ask carrier for directions. If one has access to internet, check Google maps. If your son needs a good GPS for trucks, get something like RandMcNalley or similar. I used to use Garmin 350 and almost never had a problem but always got directions from customers and many times would disregard GPS and follow their directions instead. Now got Garmin 465t. It seems to be the same, a little bit of improvement. Very simple, user friendly, and not packed with hundreds of applications that I don't need. I can still use my map, my log, my truck stop directory...

I have the dezl. Love it. I got the LT though, not the LMT. So far it's been spot on. My company provides route info and twice in the last week it's given me a better, shorter route than that which my company provides.

    Gotta recommend the dezl.

Check out the new dezl. Dedicated trucker GPS. Mine has been spot on every time since I've had it and yes, I DO have the Rand McNally MCRA.

I purchased a dezl 560LT about a week ago. It replaced the TND700.

I have to say, the Garmin sure seems to be a better unit. It has a ton of stuff it will do. I really need to download the extended manual for it.
