Good day all. I purchased the TND 700 today from Pilot as I got sucked in to the 349. price tag. It wasn't until I registered it on line that I noticed they now offer a 710 model. Is the 710 that much better than the 700?

Not sure if I can return the 700 or not (have to look the return policy up but I'm leaning toward No cause its an electronic device), any how, if for some reason I can is it worth paying the additional 100 bucks for the 710 model due to the new features or should I just stick with the one I got?

I do like the ability to tell where you are at by the mile marker feature

I am not sure if the 710 allows you to select the route you want to take by clicking on the map screen and dragging the route line if you don't like the one suggested like you can on google maps.

my buddy has the 700 and his is constantly routing him up a hwy that leads into heavy city traffic when it would be about 30 miles farther but no stop and go traffic by taking interstate 5.

there have been other similar situations but this one was the easiest example to use

    Thanks

Pilot used to allow trading in electronics for other electronics. I don't know if they still do but they'd also have to have the 710 in stock.

I have not ignored you...been thinking of the best way to resolve.

Does the issue happen all the time? If so, go to main screen\preferences\device\gps data - bottom right is used\seen. Let me know the numbers when it acts up again..

I think I flashed the one I gave you, but I have gotten another flash since then.. You only need the flash if the unit seems to lag like yours.

Send me your address in an E-Mail and I will send you a Flash SD. Flash SD will basically rewrite the firmware and delete any files on the internal Flash.

Before you flash it, connect to the TND Dock and do a backup (not full). this will save your user information. Or if you are computer savvy, look for the external drive Intelliroute and under Navi and the RM folder are user folders. Copy them to your computer,,, do not get mixed up.

Then after the SD Flash is done, copy back or do a restore (not all).

I do not feel it is software..

    Thanks,
    Mark

Cannot say how Pilot will react, but I think if it a newly bought item and you wish to return and buy a higher price product,,,then they should.. but, up to Pilot

You cannot move the screen around to set a route, but you can on the map screen when you are in a route, look to the right side of screen, and you should see on the upper right 3 lines in a box. This is the turn-by-turn list, they can click on the section they want to detour and detour that part. The TND will recalculate a different route.

Their are features on the 710 that will not be on the 700.

    Thanks,
    mark

RAND McNALLY RELEASES NEXT GENERATION INTELLIROUTE® TND™ GPS Units

Truck-Specific GPS Line Now Includes Traffic, Software Enhancements and Sleek New Design

Skokie, Ill., March 9, 2011 - Driven by upgraded technology and feedback from long-haul truck drivers, Rand McNally has launched two new truck-specific GPS units: the 5-inch IntelliRoute® TND™ 510, and the large, high-definition 7-inch IntelliRoute® TND™ 710. The new units incorporate user-requested enhancements, the ability to incorporate real-time traffic, and a newly designed, thinner hardware unit.
"Rand McNally is committed to the commercial transportation industry and to the professional driver. Our industry-leading IntelliRoute® TND™ line has been enhanced to provide further value to the over-the-road driver," said Dave Muscatel, CEO of Rand McNally. "The Trucker Business Tools continue to lead the market in innovation, providing ways to make the business side of driving easier, while reducing in cab distractions."
    New enhancements include:
    • Virtual Dashboard - At a glance, drivers can view sunrise or sunset, odometer, speed, altitude and other key metrics.
    • Traffic Predictor (Available only on the TND™ 710) - Integrates historic traffic patterns into routing.
    • Real-time traffic compatible - Truckers can calculate driving time with congestion ahead, or seek alternate routes. An additional accessory is needed; that accessory will be available at www.randmcnally.com for the suggested retail price of $89.99 and includes a lifetime traffic feed.
    • View Current Location by Mile Marker - View location by mile marker along major interstates.
    • Enhanced Truck-specific Points of Interest - Now includes truck washes, towing and service, and truck repair information from Truck Down®.
    • Find a Location by Latitude and Longitude - Useful when delivering to oil fields, solar windmill fields, new construction, etc.
    • Finding a Destination by ZIP Code - One of the most requested enhancements, the new feature includes three-character input for Canada
    • Enhanced Quick Planner - Now includes user-defined average speed to further specify the time required from point to point.
    • Multi-Stop Entire Route Preview - Now choose from Detail View, Highway View (New), Trip Summary and Summary Map View (New) to better review a planned route.
    • Enhanced Voice Warnings - Drivers can prepare for sharp curves, upgrade/downgrade, time zone, upcoming construction, border crossing, and speed limit changes with user-set warnings.
    • Loaded vs. Empty Option - Allows the driver to select whether he/she is carrying content; required for IFTA reporting purposes.
The IntelliRoute® TND™ line was developed from the ground up for truckers. Tested extensively by professional drivers on the road, the units feature louder speakers designed for truck use; truck-designed mounting features such as an oversized suction cup and extra-long power cable; and a suite of specialized Trucker Business Tools to assist drivers in managing the business aspects of trucking. Many of the new features in the IntelliRoute® TND™ 510 and 710 units were developed as a direct result of tens of thousands of comments from drivers that came in via "Tell Rand," a unique on-device feature that provides continuous feedback to Rand McNally from the driver community.
The IntelliRoute® TND™ line of GPS products is "Trucker tested. Trucker approved." Suggested retail price is $349 for the 510 and $449 for the 710. Both units are available at truck stops nationwide and at other online retailers. Visit www.randmcnally.com/truckgps for more information.

I got my 710 and have used it in my pickup truck for 2 days now. I LOVE this thing. It's the most acurate GPS I've ever seen. It is large enough you can get all the information with a glance. The keyboard buttons are big enough that even fat fingers like me can type even without the included pen(stylus)

My only complaint so far is on I85 it doesn't show mile markers, I drive I40 and I85 to school, on 40 and 40/85 it shows them (within about 10 - 15 feet from the stick in the ground it channges on the screen) but when 40 splits they go away on the screen. I also wish there were more voice options.

I am confused,,, you are in NC?

I-40 and I-85 do not join except around Greensboro... is this where you are talking about? The TND goes by Lat\Long. The poles in the ground could be off..

Give me mile markers where you see them.... I live about 50 miles from that area and I have to drive up there on Monday.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I live in raleigh and fo to school in thomasville. 40 and 85 run together from durham to greensboro (going west or south) on the way to school, it shows mile markers to greensboro split. on the way home it doesn't show them untill the merge at greensboro. not a big deal, but i had to find something to gripe about.

Is there a way of updating the 500 to a 510. Does the 510 say 510 on the unit. I just bought a 500 at a Pilot and on the back of the box where the bar code is it says 510. Just wondering.
