I'm going with Swift!!!

I joined TTR about the same time as ORG, so I've followed his threads from the start. I understood his situation and agree with you that the odds were stacked against him. But he was just so motivated to be a driver that I couldn't count him out, and he's proven us wrong before. That's why I ask the question if he's still driving (at this point I can't believe so), and if anyone knows how he's doing.

It's now 3 months since we've heard a thing from ORG, so I'm now of the official opinion that he's done with trucking. I'll continue the rest of this post on that assumption, but maybe he'll come back and prove me wrong.

I realize trucking has evolved into what it is for a reason. However, there must be something fundamentally wrong if a guy like ORG can't make it. Here's a guy who's intelligent, responsible, has a clean background, hard worker, good attitude, etc. Seems everything an employer could want. Add the fact that being a truck driver was his dream. It's a combo that should allow someone to make it, but apparently it's still not enough. So I wonder what's the secret to making it in this industry? The longer I stay on these boards the more I agree with those who say that most driving schools are mills that graduate students so companies can pick them up, burn them out, and toss them out after a few months so they can hire a new crop of newbies at the lowest wages possible.

Like ORG's HATWO thread, this thread here should be docked, and both should be required reading for every new member of TTR who's a wannabe. At least it'll take someone from start to finish on what can happen regardless of how good an attitude they have or how much they want this career. Maybe the moderators can put together some thread or sticky that answer the most common questions, the ones that keep getting asked over and over, in a straightforward, unbiased, pull-no-punches way, so that wannabes get a true picture and have enough warning of the negatives. And then send a PM upon joining directing wannabes to this info, and the threads. Maybe it should go as far as putting together some kind of online aptitude test wannabes can take to see if they're really suited for this career. No it won't be perfect, but at least they'll have an idea.

Not too long ago I was reading a thread by a wannabe who said he wanted to be a driver, but knew nothing so he came to TTR to do research. That part was wise. He had maybe 3 posts, and had just joined, and he said he was looking at schools. He had about 4 or 5 responses in regards to schools. What's wrong with this picture? Before even thinking of a school he should do a lot of research about the career, the lifestyle, think long and hard about it, and then look at schools AFTER deciding to do it. Worse still, the responses he got never mentioned any of this. Not that anyone had bad intentions, but someone thinking about this career needs to know fully what he/she is getting into before talking about schools.

Sorry for the rant, but after joining TTR at the same time as ORG and following his progress, I'm really sorry to see it turn out this way. Maybe having some kind of formal guide for wannabes right from the start of joining TTR could help prevent wasted money, wasted time, and broken dreams.

 

Your opinion is well taken, rayodeluz, but is predicated on the theory that his absence from this forum dictates he has moved on. There are many possibilities as to why we don't hear from him. Only his words will tell the true story.

 

I know, and maybe I'm wrong. But I did say that I officially believe he's now out of trucking, and my post was going to be based on that assumption. Only 3 posts or so from him since October, all within the span of a couple days in December, does not bode well.

 

Maybe he's just outgrown us. Happens everyday.

 

I also joined TTR around the same time and his thread was a (small) factor in going with Swift.
Sorry to see him MIA for so long.
I'm guessing the long stretches away from his young family was a big factor in, what I'm assuming, was his exit from his brief stint at trucking.
Weird though to have no update.
Some folks may be a bit bitter and want to leave it all behind.
Like a 'friend' I made at orientation that was from the same area as me.
We shared rides home a few times and talked on the phone about every-other-day for 3 months.
Now, poof... no calls or returned calls.. dropped into limbo.
???? How's about an update?

 

It's a shame I think the evidence does point to trucking not working out for him.
I found the original thread with he an chralb a bit late and it took me about a week to get caught up. I have a similar situation as chralb and was looking for Pennsylvania guys to follow on here (local for me).
Tough dose of reality unfortunately.

That's very possible, but it would seem unlike him. He was always very good at updates, and he seemed the type who would at least give a farewell note if it didn't work out.

I completely agree with this, maybe THE reason. I wouldn't see him giving up so soon if he were single with no kids.

Agree with this also. I tried being an auto tech a while back, and went to a site very similar to TTR but for auto techs. I did the research and spent a lot of time on that site like ORG did here. To make a long story short, that career never worked out for me, and I've haven't been back to that site since, nor do I have any desire to do so.
