Couldn't have said it any better or with as much humor Gadfly. I run 14ft of of coax in my mobile. 4ft from radio to amp, and 10ft from amp to antenna.

Sadly to say, but you are incorrect.

I'm new into trucking, but i have plenty of experience working at night as a security guard.

the blue is a brighter color, so it will lessen your vision at night.

For a color light that wont degrade your night sight, red is a better color, since red is a darker color, compared to blue which is a lighter color.

I installed a red bulb into my car so i could write my reports, and still see outside of my car. it works great.

Agreed with above post. Blue looks cooler but is brighter. I know. I had a factory blue LED radio once. Lit up the whole truck. Red OTOH is not as bright. Green is in-between the two.

18 feet is approximately a 1/2 wavelength on the CB band.

18 ft of coax is not a wave length 36 ft is. You only need to run enough coax to reach from the radio to the antenna. And just because you heard it on the CB doesn't make it true. If fact most of the things you hear about CB are not. It's just someone repeating something that they heard some other dummie say. Also the Blue lights are rather hard on your eyes at night. And I would say run the RG-8x coax. You should take the time and read some of the older post. You would learn a lot about radios, and antennas.

    Another CB MYTH .....

The length of coax does not match a antenna UNLESS it is used like 72 ( rg-59 ) as a phasing stub ....

You can run 52 ohm coax till the cows come hme and it will not change
the SWR only where the meter reads it ....

Thats good to know for the next time I buy it. Less should be cheaper. I am going to run the clear copper premium RG-8x with gold pl-259 ends. I am thinknng I could get buy with around 6 feet just going from my mirror mount antenna to the radio hung in the middle of the truck. I run a wilson mag mount 1000 but really want one of those predator 10k anttenas. I ma hearing the daul coils are better for mirror mounts. I don't know what length to get they seem to have alot of choices. I gues I will point it forward and up. I gues its supose to work better that way but I don't really like the looks of it pointed way out.

Thanks for the info guys, The Chrome Cobra is out then since it has the blue LEDs, so I need to find another. I do prefer Cobra (not sure why lol) and I want to be ablr to see it at night, so maybe one of the green nightwatch ones?

OK, forgive my noobness lol but I have another question since you guys brought up antenaes

Im in a 09 KW T2000, and it has a built in CB Antenae and a TV Antenae.

First off, there are 2 antenaes on the truck I can see (one on each side of the cab) and I dont know which one is for the CB and which is the TV one. How can I tell?

Second, if I get a better antenae, couldnt I just unscrew the factory antenae and screw in the new one?

Check out this CB, its a new one, and pretty fancy too. CB, PA, and WX are available on this radio. Plus it has color changing screen. You can choose from the colors :Green, Blue, Amber, Red. all of which can be dimmed, if needed.
