I started driving truck in 1999 and had a bad experience with a so called trainer myself. The company that I went to work for will remain nameless, however I will tell of my one week, one trip adventure....

Things started out ok, we was heading out from Mount Airy, NC heading to the Los Angeles area. I started out behind the wheel because he wanted to see where I was as far as my driving abilities go. I figure that was pretty standard and had no issue's with it...

But as we hit the mid-west, around Oklahoma, where the casino's where is when I started having problem's. The trainer had a MAJOR gambling problem!!! and I mean big time. He would stop at every T/S to play Cherry Master machines (the older drivers know the machines that I am talking about, most truck stops don't have them anymore) and all the casino's just so he could spend money in the machines. Needless to say the load was LATE delivering and he tried to say that it was my fault.

SO at this point I made it a point to write down everytime that he stopped and how long. When we got back to the yard in Mount Airy I gave it to the general manager of the company... We will continue with this part as I finish up what all happened because it all plays in together.

Anyway's, as we were heading east from LA along I-40 we were talking and what not as most trainer/trainee's would as well as team drivers do as well and all the sudden he started hitting me as I was driving!!! After about 5 to 6 times of being hit I pulled into the next rest area and said that I needed to use the bathroom and made a phone call to the GM and told him what was going on and said that if he does it again I will personally end the drivers career for him. The GM asked what I ment and I told him that I would knock the guy out and make sure that he didn't wake up till I had the truck back into the terminal.

He told me that he will call him and talk to him about it and to please PLEASE not do that... Well, he continued to hit me the following day as well.... Needless to say the guy got his jaw dislocated for him!!! and the GM looked at him and told him that he should have kept his hands off of me because he did not know what my back ground was (which I will not get into here either, let's just say that he hit somebody that has the training and knowhow to take care of himself) and should be glad that I did not do more... and then proceeded to tell him that his last paycheck was waiting for him in the office!!!

Come to find out about 2 weeks after that incident (which I did not stay with that company and did not take another run with them either. I had enough of the abuse from one trainer and was not going through it with another) it was determined that he was on drugs (the guy's mother went to the company asking why they encouraged drug use among there drivers etc. The company did no such!!!) and was acting this way because of those supposedly. The guy no longer has his CDL from what I know as well.

Now, as far as drugs in a commercial motor vehicle.... MY opinion is that there is no place in them for addicts!!! If you (or anyone) is strung out on drugs or using them and I was to find out and able to PROVE it.... Let's just say god have mercy on you because I will be the first to call teh DOT and the company about it!!! There are reason's that the companies have to drug test and that is because drug use is not safe with driving a truck!!!

If that seem's harsh to some of you then I just say think of it like this....
If your family was driving in the car next to you, in front of you or anywhere near you, would you do the drugs and still want them there? I know that I wouldn't nor would any of the drivers that I know.

Anyways, have fun out there and stay safe!!!

I do try to make a point when I post things, to me that is what the board is about. Look for my blog entries to start after I get to the new company and have a better idea of what my time is going to be like.

A "local" trainer at Cypress came unglued when this one know-it-all newbie crashed his trailer into another while backing and had him try again - and he did the same thing again, crashing into the trailer beside ours again!

I said, "Oh, boy, I guess we all have to go get a pee test now."

"No way!" the trainer shot back. "Then I'd have to take one too! Don't say anything to anybody."

I didn't - until I got my own truck and was asked about the training.... :biggrin_25511:

Specifically, you relayed a rambling yarn - ending, of course, with you beating someone up. Gee - if I had a quarter for every one of those stories I've heard a truck driver tell...

Then came your courageous stand against driving under the influence of drugs. Thank heaven you enlightened us - otherwise, how would we have ever known that was a bad thing?

I didn't say you didn't make a point - I just didn't think it was "well made." Nothing to lose sleep over.

Wait just a minute here. Assuming the man is being truthful about his being trained to fight, and at this point I have no reason to believe he isn't, it would be logical to conclude that he is also trained NOT to fight unless there is no other option.

Anyone who has been schooled in martial arts has a distinct advantage over anyone who doesn't, and is also taught to use it for defense only, much like the way doctors swear to the Hippocritical oath.

Also, how do you expect him to defend himself while he's trying to drive a truck at the same time?

Yeah - I'm sure most (if not all) ninjas, CIA assasins, navy seals, and 007 agents (pretty much the only ones with the skills this "man" intimates he possesses) end up as driver trainees.

And of course, no truck driver (or wanabe truck driver) would ever "enhance" the truth. Thanks for bringing me to my senses Mack.

    read his post again.
