Guess what I get to do? I get to entertain DOT in the next couple weeks. GRRRRR:biggrin_2554: Nice guy, but does he really know how stressed I get during an internal DOT audit? I doubt it, but then again maybe he enjoys it :).

Yeap so any questions guys/ladies feel free to ask, I think I am going to sit down and ask him many of the questions you already have, but I don't want to forget any. He is very helpfull guy. I just get nervous thinking of something might go wrong.

Anyhow wish me luck and hopefully I won't come back saying I am un-employed floyd.:biggrin_25523:

See if all my drivers would log legal & know all the regulations I could be relaxed free right now

Man, that's gotta suck! It's just got to make you feel about to get picked apart. Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll be just fine.

Thanks Rug! I am sure I will do fine, but you know always in the back of your head how will they turn this around or that around. I have never had that happen, but my guard is always up. I want it to come out perfect, like me. NO just kidding, I do want the audit to be perfect that is always my goal and hope I @ least pass.

I will let you all know, if I don't pass well then I won't have internet anymore:biggrin_2557:

The timing was bad, if just one more month I would have been 100% happier!

What sucks even worse is sometimes the drivers don't understand what's riding on your shoulders when you're having to be a d##k, my husband use to complain all the time. Not to say drivers aren't under alot of preasure as well.

Ok when driving otr so many people say that if you stop every 3-4 hours for bathroom and stretch a little you will eat up 2 hours that you do not have to spare. I asked them well can't that be used for the two hour portion of the 10 hour break.
My question is can you take 4 30 min breaks for the bathroom stretching and log it as you do it and how would you log it off duty or what?
I was told in school yes but some on here has told me no that is wrong you can not do that. In school we logged all of our breaks even if they were just 15 min.
I would like you to get clairification on this.
I do know that the 8 hour sleeper break can not be broken up but I was told the two hours can be broken up as you want or need to.

    Thank You in advance logs
From a person soon to be on the road with a trainer.

This question is for logs only
please no one else reply to this question.

The issue here is if you stop you have to log it. It is to your advantage to log it as off duty (as long as your company gives you permission to log meal breaks, breaks etc as off duty). If I start driving at 10:00 am and I decide to stop for 30 minutes and I log it off duty or on-duty @ least it is not eating my 11 hours of available driving time. To many drivers say they just log 11 hours straight driving time (even though they stop for breaks) and then adjust their log at the end of the day. Well you have 3 hours to kill (off duty/sleeper/on-duty) on your 14 hour "period" so log it like you do it! Now does that time count against your 14 hour? YES! Does 30 minute breaks help towards any rest breaks? NO NO NO NO! The only thing that helps is a 2 hour consecutive break or an 8 hour sleeper break. I am going to get you all a better example of split breaking I PROMISE, but it still takes talking through it for you to understand. Anyhoot. The point is once you start your day (lines 3 or 4) you have 14 hours to get that 11 hours of driving (line 3 only) in. It doesn't matter what you do in between the driving time should not total more than 11 hours and you should not drive past that 14th hour. If you want to split break, well you must have @ least an 8 hour sleeper break (YES IT MUST BE IN THE SLEEPER).

Split breaking: If you have 8.5 hours in the SLEEPER you can extend your 14 hour by 8.5 hours. So if you start @ 10:00 am and you drive 5 hours and you sleep 8 hours, then you count over 8 hours from 12:00 am which makes it 8:00 am the following day that your 14 hour ends. Now you can only drive 6 hours until you get a 2 hour break. Once you get that 2 hour break to complete the 10 hour break you restart your 14 hour from the end of the previous break (either the 8 or 2 minimum break).

Does this help any? I tried to be brief, it's hard to when discussing the 11,14 & split breaking.

You really need to study my sheets that I give you in the sticky threads on this thread. If you go through it and through it you will understand what is being said!

I hope I did not get off subject but I am on the phone! :biggrin_25519:

The 3 magic #'s is 11, 14, & 70. Logs explained this pretty good, even tho she don't drive!:biggrin_25523: You only wanted her response, now that she has responded you get mine.:biggrin_2556: As was brought up in another thread the things new drivers don't understand is how all the times stack against your 14. Your problem comes from not being able to drive past 14 hours of being on duty. You have 11 hours to drive in, but if you have burnt 8 hours on duty not driving take 8 away from 14=6. Your 11 hours of driving is now 6.:biggrin_2556: You can thank all the slow moving dock workers and people that ate your clock. Tick-tock. Or all the flats or whatever it was that burnt your time on duty not driving. This is why veteran drivers say keep the door closed.

Now Logs I want to throw a curve ball here. Explain the 8th day gain where you gain the 1st day's hours back on your tick tock.:biggrin_25523: Just when the new guys thought they had it along comes an old timer monkey!:biggrin_25523:

    thank you both
Now I will have to ask my company that ill be going with if I can log my breaks off duty.
I will also ask them if I can log the loading/unloading by another person as being off duty and stay in the sleeper.

I will ask about breakdowns too as long as I can stay hid away from the wheel.

Because if I understand right as long as it as off duty it does not count against my 11, 14, 70 hr clock.

Your welcome. You can extend it only by a sleeper berth. You can't stop the tick tock. That 14 is a killer. It is really hard to explain. The 34 restart is where you gain your time back. There is a gain from the 8th day, but only older drivers will be aware of this. I no longer drive, but was out on the road when the first change was made. in 2004 from 10 hrs driving and 8 in the sleeper to 11 and 10. It has changed again since then. logs would be better at explaining this. I can make it work on paper, but have a hard time explaining it. Your trainer will be able to fine tune your logging and you can always buy pamplets or small books at truckstops to help explain it. Recapping comes in to play and really helps you manage your time. I always made a note so I could see when I needed to be shutting down and had it on my dash so I could keep up with my time.
