Hello guys and gals. I am new to this forum. Also am getting the finalizing of buying my fathers truck and trailer from him. As he is going semi retired I have yet another 30+ years left to work. My question is where on Gods green earth do you find work for a 48x96 reefer spread axle? Everywhere I am looking wants a 53x102. I got the truck and trailer for under 30k now I need to get some #### work!! Any help would be appreciated.

Pretty much obsolete. Doesn't matter if the product will fit. Just like when you had 45x96,everyone wanted the new 48x102.

Try looking at hauling bulk spuds. There actually is money in that, and the smaller lighter trailers allow more of a load.

Give me some time to come up with a couple. My hubby is a company driver that hauls a lot of spuds. Sawinski (sp?) is one that I can think of off the top of my head. There use to be an outfit by the name of Black Gold, but I don't know if they are still around or not. I'll check with my hubby when I talk to him later, and see who else he knows of and who you could contact.

wichris I don't have enough post counts to reply just yet. give me 10 minutes please. LOL. And lilbit I do appreciate the info. Its really a true battle between me and the old man. He says theres nothing left out here and I say BS of course there is. Then again he was out there before the internet takeover. Now it is much easier to network and get in contact with people that have loads that pay a a fair rate.

Heartland Farms out of WI, MBT out of Jacksonville, FL, Sowinski (proper spelling) out of near Charleston, Missouri, Black Gold (still around) out of ND. Are you going to have your own authority? A couple of those outfits you could lease yourself on with if you wanted to go that route. Might be better to have your own authority though.

yes. I will have my own authority. From what I am gathering it is the only way to go. I have a strong family at home. And my father has plenty of experience with the regulations and seeking out what the new reguations are. So that will be a great help. Honestly its been a bit hard after 6 years of being local to go back to the road but I am sure things will be just fine. Especially maybe just a tad better doing it for myself.

Running your own authority will definitely be better than running under someone else's, since then you don't have their safety rating affecting you. Sounds like you have a good background and a good support system for getting into this.
