Bells cb and screwdriver radio tech?

I have radios from them and currently have a linear that he has setup and I have no reason to doubt his work.The guy I bought it from used to drive OTR and bought it there. He is one of the truly honest guys out there they won't try to sell you something that you don't need just to make money. They stand by their work and prices are fair I will only deal with them and Doug at custom from now on. And believe me I spend good money on my toys. Again this is my opinion and you can take what you will from it but you asked so there it is. You won't regret buying from bells at all.

Back many years ago when AM was still used on ham radio the transmitters used SCREEN GRID MODULATION .... it was simple and did exactly what these swing kits do.

A common name was controled carrer modulation and we were happy to see it go AWAY .....

 

Don't mean to be a pest but . . . why? (Most of us can't find screens or grids on our gear.)

Using the screen grid on a final amp tube to create modulation allowed the output to swing from almost zero to max .... same as the swing kits do today.

HeathHit and Drake use it until AM died ....

I guess I could have phrased it a little better. Why is it bad on AM solid state radios and amps? From what I can piece together amps utilize it to "rest" between mic inputs. Sort of like coasting on a bike between periods of furious pedaling. An idle state if you will.

Or am I all wet?

I am very happy with my radio I received from Bell's. In my opinion they are a top notch shop. Great customer service, and my first DX contact from the central US was 860 in the Dominican Republic, with a DX-94HP. The radio sounds sooooo gooooood! Great experience!
