Yes "The Thing" is w/o a doubt an interesting place.I used to buy the minnikota(?) driving mocs there and was wondering if the place was still in existence as i have ceased driving coast to coast. It was around 1993 that I last stopped there.
Thanks for the memory purge.

Just remembered this thread.
Chetwynd BC appears to host a chainsaw carving competition every year. The chainsaw sculptures are displayed all over town, and are well worth looking at. There are business frontage roads along both sides of Hwy 97, so truck parking is easy. -
In Las Vegas you can park at Mandalay Bay. Take exit 36. Lots of room and a short walk to the rest of the fun sights.
Gettysburg, PA is another cool place to see. You can tour the park as long as you leave the trailer behind. Good food and lots to do.
Salinas, Ca drop the trailer had head to Monterey. I had no problem parking the truck. Check out the cool boardwalk and Aquarium, or just relax on the beach.

someone posted the USS Alabama, last year i went there and parking for a big rig is $25!
the air force museum in dayton oh has free truck parking at the rear of the fenceline.
the pima air museum has free truck/rv parking, just keep left after passing entrance gate. make sure to purchase tickets to the boneyard (AMARC). its amazing. -
Oh man. Next time I'm in Dayton I'm going to Wright Patterson then. I used to go to the USA terminal in Vandalia and they strongly discouraged bobtailing off-site, even though they'd keep you in the shop on-site untill you ran out of groceries.
Anyway, for you guys that can't find parking in the Northeast, Mohegan Sun Casino has truck parking in the bus/RV lot, and a 24-7 shuttle into the hotel.
Not a bad place to take a 10. -
I heartily recommend taking a bicycle everywhere you go. A bicycle opens up the opportunities exponentially. Some of the best mountain biking trails in the country are accessible by truck and most cities of any size have bike trails. I usually strap on a camera and have something worth publishing by the time I get back.

We stopped at the Precious Moments factory/museum in Carthage, MO. Plenty of big truck parking and it turned out to be a great diversion. Beautiful gardens, lots of things to look at inside. Helped to break up the day. My husband had always wanted to stop and was just waiting for a trip that I was along.
okcowgirl97 Thanks this. -
The Tree , The TREE.
Back in the early 80's , some off the wall artiist had that built in honor for his daughter, for something she did. -
You can also park at the Palce Casino on the west side of the freeway, walk into where the shuttel drop and pick up, get a ride over to the strip.
