Just be sure that when you are happy with how it goes together to grab a can of paint or something.....and number everything...wood and stakes....and don't forget to mark which side...Right or Left. You do that and it's SO much easier to deal with. If it's tight on some parts now...it'll get better as time goes, just as long as you stick to the plan. Oh, it may be best to mark on the inside. LOL

I'm new to all of this and I've read most of the posts. What can I do to help my husband out getting started? I'm willing to help him find loads but I'm new to all of this. Any advice is greatly appreciated. pls keep in mind I'm a general manger at a country club and my time is limited but i'm willing to do whatever. he's dedicated to trucking so he'll stay running.

Is he with Crst Malone? If so use there load board, once he is loaded and heading to make his delivery, start checking the load board to see what the loads look like coming out of the area he is headed into. I start my search within 150 mile radius of where I will be delivering. I usually find agents that are posting loads in the area I am headed to and start calling them and let them know when I will be delivering in there area and ask them to start looking for loads for me. They will usually ask you what direction you want to head. If freight is jamming in the area you are headed into, agents will know that you are headed in there direction, and start calling you before you even get near there area offering you loads.
I have learned that when this happens you have a little more bargaining power, They are desperate to move there customers freight, so I will ask for a little more money for fuel or money for tolls if applicable. For instance they load I am on now is going to NJ for Monday, I knew the customer and agent needed this load moved it was already paying a killer rate to the truck and I don't mind going to NJ, so I told them to add $100 for tolls to the trucks revenue (not the total Line haul, because Crst doesn't need to get 25% of my toll money) they agreed to the extra $100.
I have done very well since being here, and this is with me making some bad choices of loads, but I try and learn from those mistakes and not repeat them. If you stay in the "box" you can make all they money you want and get home as often as you choose. It kills me when guys so that can't make money here, these are usually guys that want to run out West or deep into Texas. You might get a good paying load going to these locations, but you will lose your shirt trying to get back out of there. Crst Malones bread and butter area is from the "Rust belt" back down South i.e. Alabama, NC, SC, Ga. you can run back and forth all week and get great rates both directions. Easy money!!

I was at Worthington Steel in Monroe Ohio this week and a Malone driver parked next to me. When I came out he comes over to me and says " Hey Maverick Can you help me out? He wanted me to give him to of the posts on the right side of my side kit that keeps the tarp from falling to the ground when you push it over. I told him they were not mine to give. He said that the trailer he got from Malone did not have any.
I had to go back into the shipper and gave it no more thought. I came back out to my truck and pulled into the dock.
As I was heading up I 75 I noticed that my tarp on the right side in the back was flapping a bit. When I stopped a went back and looked at it and found that two of my posts were missing. That dirt bag stole them!

Thats screwed up.....should have gotten his truck number and called CRST. On behalf of this THIEF I apologize. To bad you weren't delivering at the same place....you could have confronted the jerk face to face.

On a better note, so how are you liking pulling the covered wagon? I have been pulling mine now for about two weeks, and have gotten a system dowm as far as breking it down and putting it back together. It sure beats tarping. On a couple of occasions I have had to actually do more work then others, because the load I picked up was a no tarp load, but in the long run it will be better pulling a side kit.
Again Jim sorry for the scumbag move of one of our drivers.
