I really don't think you're seeing the point.
First, you can usually find a good deal with someone who wants to swap back to duals, and get a deal. My truck came equipped that way, so it doesn't count; I only have tire replacement costs.
How Long is it going to take to make that back?
Not that darn long, especially if fuel prices go up. The ROI on this is a no-brainer.
How many tires are you going to blow out?
How many rims will you replace?
Knock on wood... I haven't lost a tire yet. There are two primary causes for blowouts: road debris and under-inflation. Drive carefully and do your (legally required) pretrip inspections. Answer: 0.
How many hours will you waste waiting for a Rim/Tire?
0
How many loads did you have to give up while waiting?
0
How many times where you late because of waiting?

How Much did it cost for the BigRig Wrecker to come pull you out of the ditch when you spun out on snow or ice?
You might want to speak to the morons running duals last week in VT who all passed me and either spun out or got stuck in a snowdrift. I made it a good 50 miles past them to my load appointment with no trouble.
How much is it going to cost when you WRECK your truck do to traction loss?
That would be a case of negligent driving/excessive speed for conditions.
How much damage did all those blown tires do to your truck/trailer/freight?
etc...

There are drivers who quite frequently log millions of accident-free miles.

AmericanTrucker, It is quite evident you have little to no experience with wide-based singles(yes this is the correct term as few companies actually use super singles). You need to go back a few pages and read the post by the Conway driver who has been running wide-based singles for over 5 years I do believe he is much more qualified to give an opinion on how they perform. Your actual knowledge and factual descriptions do nothing but prove your lack of experience in this industry. Here are some true facts concerning the performance of wide-based singles.
1.They are no less stable than duals they in fact have a wider footprint.
2.They perform much better on snow as they allow you to stay on top of the snow and not dig down to the ice as nothing has traction on ice. Your remark amount digging through is incorrect. Do you ever wonder why you see some drivers running in the snow covered lane? Simple answer is there is more traction.
3.Though it may destroy the rim when it blows this doesn't happen 100% of the time there are several factors such as speed, weight, type of surface, that affect this.
4.There is absolutely no truth in the statement they are not common and will be hard to find you need to do a little more research before making such statements.
5. As with duals if you blow a tire you are stuck on the side of the road. It is illegal to drive a commercial vehicle with a flat tire.
6. They do not hydro-plane any more than duals you are making statements on here say not experience.
7. Wide-based singles with a low rolling resistance provide more than enough increase in fuel mileage to offset the difference in price.
8. Your argument has been broken. -
Not that it really matters much to this post--but just for informational sake--the term "super-singles" is a trademark/copyrighted brand name of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.--which is why--wide tires are branded and marked by many other names--The Michelin rep in our area was very clear to point this out when he was pushing Michelin's entrance into the wide tire market a few years back--in fact after using the term super-singles just once to explain it to us--he said(per his management)he wasn't allowed to even say it again! LOL
Just thought I'd throw that out there.Flying Dutchman Thanks this. -
I drove on super single re-cap drive tires today. I'm not a fan of that at all!

hmmm who doesnt limp down the off ramp to the TS or nearest shop? Why pay out the az$ for road service when you still have 17 good tires?
Like I said you do and like what you want and the rest of us will do and like as we please!
