Hi,
I am an owner operator and somewhat new in the transportation industry. I have never transported goods into Canada. What do I need to do to be able to transport goods into Canada? Question that I have are
1) What permits do we need to transport goods from the US into Canada. 2) Who do we contact to obtain these permits.
If there are anything else that we need to know, please let us know. Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about permits to "allow" you to run in Canada, or do you want to know about the paperwork for each shipment?

Thanks for replying. Yes, I was mainly referring to permits to "allow" me to run in Canada.
Also, if there are also specific permits for the shipment that I should know about, please let me know. I will be hauling ice cream from the US into Canada for a small company in California.
thanks,

If the truck is your own, you'll probably need IFTA permits, border documents, ect. If the truck is the companies, they'll have all that sorted out for you. That's all I can remember. I'm sure there are more than enough gentlemen on this website who'll fill in the gaps.

you'll need the province's authority and basic canadian authority
as for the border, PARS to go in, PAPS to go out if loaded....normally the US will let you in empty without it
but DO NOT attempt to go in without authority (met more than one who got turned around due to not having it) or your PARS documents (they go thru a border broker basicly, and sent to the CBP minimum 1 hour before you hit the gate)
just search it on google.....it has all the answers...somewhere
