The "Ghost Fleet" is run by the DOE out of Albuquerque NM but the trucks are located in Amarillo TX. You have to be a federal officer to drive those trucks and they train you. When I talked to them they didn't want truck drivers because they said they didn't want any bad habits and they would train the driver themselves. They make very good money when they go out and there's 3 drivers in the truck. You don't have to worry about unloading or loading but there's tons of rules you must know. They haul very specific items that the government is the only one that owns the items.
TSMT hauls alot of explosives for the government and IMHO is a very good company to work for. Again very strick rules but they do run solo and very nice equipment. I talked with them also when the hauled alot of missiles up to the Trident base in WA.
Both of these companies only take the best with the first one taking people that can pass their physical tests.
There are many companies that have drivers with security clearances but they are for civilians and if you've had a BI that is recent that may help.
We even had a driver that was required to have a clearance to take a load of diesel up to a place that did not even exist way out in the Nevada desert. Yep, that's the place.
However, you can use your clearance as a reference on your applications. I did it with my TS clearance. And if you do find a job that requires a clearance you may have a better shot than the normal person because your clearance would be alot cheaper to run than someone that needs to start from the beginning. If I were you I would make a resume and include that and drop it off at prospective employers. It won't hurt.

Good picture there tenspeed. Thats from the documentry Big Rig. It is still western Dist. it is just the money truck fleet that they have and you have to have a CCW permit and all that stuff to work on it. They dont get paid that much though. Yeah nice freakin trucks but look at there pay, its not all that great.
I know Landstar hauls a lot of military stuff that requires a clearance. Missiles, helos, stuff like that. I also have a secret clearance and I would love to get on with somebody who requires one to haull whatever they do and make some extra money for having it.
Thats USAC I believe stands for United States Armored Carrier.Tenspeed70 Thanks this. -
You could get your own authority and become a DOD contractor. Unless they have changed TSMT requires a secret clearance of their drivers

When I was leased to Baggett trans out of Birmingham whe hauled a lot of DOD loads. Even had to take a special explosives class and license.
They still move a lot of it but I think it's all O/O's -
Was that class so you could go onto bases with explosives? I took that when I was in the Marine Corp cause they needed a person to be able to drive a vehicle on bases with ammo in it. So they voluntold me.....
