the attitude of the "new breed of driver"

oh i'll give it a shot and say better than 50% odds lol......

even though i'm new to the game i'm old enough to be one of the 'old school' and have that mentality that it's better to have courtesy, repsect and integrity and bring it into everything you do....as well as taking pride in your work.....

not all of us newbies come to the road with such a poor attitude

 

Oh horse dodooo.

Their were and are good people now as well as whenever then was.

The good ol' days had scumbags just like they have scumbags now.

The good ol' days had professionals just as there are new professionals entering the industry now.

The reason so many companies do not want "old school" drivers is quite simple. Drivers that have bad habits count now. People that want to bend their book to make it work, or limp in on substandard equipment, just make it work and the like are unaffordable under the SMS system.

Kinda like feeding cows. I always preferred to hire someone with absolutely no experience so I did not have to break their bad habits while teaching them how I wanted the job done.

 

I agree on the over lengthed sentence of the original OP.

However according to the POWERS TO BE here on this SITE , we are not to POINT out the FACT that some posters do not know how to construct sentences or even spell at times.

I'm sorry, Tazz, but I actually took a while to compose that without making anyone mad, ruffling feathers, or whatever, so save your disrespect for someone who might be an idiot with no experience. I'm not "that" guy. I gave an opinion of my experiences in the trucking industry spanning three times in 23 years, so your comment is insulting. It's my opinion, deal with it.

 

Most of what i see is "The all about me" syndrome....

I'm sure many new guys are hard,dependable workers that do care and are courteous and careful drivers.
There are many more that are not.

There WAS much more respect for drivers years ago but that has been ruined by the masses of push them through school and hand them a truck.

Anyone who thinks they know it all after a year or so is full of themselves.
I'm going on 30 years now and still learn.

Remember when drivers dressed nice with pressed button up shirts and had the boots shined? You never see that anymore.
The way many of them dress now i would be ashamed to be seen looking like that.

OK....Bash me good but thats my opinion and screw who don't like it..

 

Alot of it nowadays is they are typing on their cell phone and are too lazy to push extra buttons and scroll to the shift and punctuation keys. I don't know about you but I find it easy to determine between the two. Misspellers even use capitals and punctuation. It's the new breed of cell phone typing.

EZ Money I recall working at a trucking outfit that had a DRESS CODE , and they supplied the uniforms + safety boots / shoes , actually had guys quit because NO WAY THEY WERE DRESSING UP.

I looked at it as $ saved , jeans & Tshirts , sneakers are were FREE back in the DAY .

 

I've only been at this for 7 years, and I've noticed a steady decline in professional attitudes in the past 7 years. Considering the old crowd is getting to retirement age, and new, younger drivers are coming in to replace them, where do you think the drop in professionalism is coming from?

Yes, there were dirtbags in the "old days". However, it seems todays' dirtbags are a new and different breed, and there are a plethora more of them.
